Hi there folks..1st time here. Could anyone know the answer to my problem. I bought my new Laptop recently and so far its been great. When I first installed my Router, everything worked fine and the little " Lolipop " thing on the bottom right hand side was all pulsating and things and I could see other Networks close by..and then my son bless him, set up a Network between my Laptop and my Desktop and now the icon just shows a red cross all the time and when I dissconnect my Laptop from the Lan, I can no longer see any other connections. If I travel away from home, will my laptop return to normal monitoring of wireless transmissions or do I have to delete my network and re-set the router to when I bought same. Hope that was not to complicated but I'm new to this wireless thing and its bugging me. Thanks in anticipation. :)

No, you just have to set up a new wireless network for the other location(s) and switch to that network when you're in reach of it.

Managing wireless settings can be a bit hard when you're new to it, but it isn't to complicated when you understand the matter. I think it's a good idea to look for a simple 'wireless tutorial' on the net, there should be a lot of those around.

It kind of sounds like your router and pc were not setup correctly the reason for the problems. Most have a 1 button setup now the will configure your acer to the router.

If you do not have access with your acer, but desktop ok. Could be auth failure. If it works when your old pc goes on first, tells me you need to clone the mac address of the pc into the router. Then you will beable to connect with either pc.

As for wireless sites, most are set to auto. If your pc is set to connect to any open auto, not good security. And I have not heard whether MS has fixed a connection bug in vista that limited you to 3 before things started acting strange.
