    Please help me if you know the answer.

    I am planning to purchase a network attached storage drive for my home network. I have a wireless network configured at home, but the wifi router (airport express) does not have a ports to connect the hard disk. However, there is also a router which is placed before the wireless router. The configuration is something like this :

    Laptop(1):::::WiFiRouter(2)---------Router(3)[three LAN ports]----------Modem(3)---->Internet(4)

    I want to connect the LAN hard drive to the Router(3).

    My question is : Will there be any issues in a connection like this ? Will it work ? Or I should try some other configuration.

    Thanks!

    As long as it's on the network, your computer should be able to find it.

    where do you plan on put the nas hard disk? or will this be usb hard disk share via router or machine?

    If share by two machine they not in same subnet / ip range you have issues

    As long as the NAS is attached to the main router it should not be an issue. I assume your second wireless router is used as an AP. If all pc are on the same subnet, all should be fined. If not you may need to know the IP address.

    I recommend setting the NAS up with a static IP. This way it will be at the same location all the time.

    if the wireless router is setup as an access point, it's plug and play. But if it's setup as a seperate router, it sometimes still will be plug and play.

    If you can see the internet with that setup, you can see the NAS.

    dear all,
    thanks for your replies and help.

    i would like to clarify that the second router (2) mentioned in my post is not a wireless router. It is wired to the modem.

    Now i did try to experiment by connect a computer at router(2) , and then tried to Ping it from another comp. connected via wireless. That worked fine.

    I guess the static IP option should make it work , in case there are problems with default setup.

    Thank you again. I will give an update again after i try the actual setup.

    cheers!
