    Hi,
I've been having some random wi-fi drops recently even when very near my router.
    Router:
    Netgear N150 Wireless Router WNR1000

    Any ideas?

Can you try another WiFi Device? A friends laptop, a mobile phone or the like?

See if your having the issues with another device?

Also what about a full reset of the Router?

Start taking a look at the web admin page to see if its issues with your isp/connection, (I know you re saying its the wifi dropping)

Might be worth taking a look at the router log files see if that sheds any help too.

Theres a few routes to look down, Help see if you can locate the problem as there is a few variables to take into consideration.

Pengy is spot on, also if you have an atheros card many have reported similar issues, some have upgraded to intel cards.
If you can rule out a Router/ISP issue try updating the card drivers first .

I messed around with my sister's Piece of dookie laptop right next to mine (Dell Inspiron or something..) and did a speed test
.85 mbps on mine vs. 1.25 mbps on hers..

I tried it again and got 1.25 on mine....

I don't really know what to make of this...

Ok, I would check out the drivers. Do a full clean re-install and try again. Its about the best place to start.

Also check the power usage in power options. set it so the Wifi card doesn't get reduced power for battery saving

Make sure it's not set to neighbor friendly mode and check your wifi adapter power management settings on the laptop.

Also make sure it's set to g/n 150Mbps mode and on a channel that isn't in use by other networks.

That router can be troublesome with dropped connections. A full factory reset (using the reset button and redoing your settings) might help. Make sure to write down all of your settings beforehand, as saving a router backup and then restoring it for this router will not help if you have bad settings in NVRAM.
