Hey guys, I have a HP J5780 AIO connected to my Windows home server, and its shared just fine. I can print from all my computers no problem, but I have no idea how to scan documents right to my computer, or scan them at all for that matter without connecting the USB cable right to my computer. If anyone has any insight, please let me know.

I personally feel scanning is not possible over a network untill u r using an AIO/ MFP print server, that too with limitations of model compatibility. U can scan by connecting usb port directly to a machine.

That model only supports shared printing, per the manual. If you want to scan, you have to connect via USB. However, there are ways around this limitation. For instance, the DIR-655 router has Shareport - connect the USB device to the router, install Shareport software on the client machines, and then each computer thinks the device is physically connected. So, if you choose to use that router (or any D-Link router that has Shareport), then you can scan from every machine.

I'm going to need to upgrade to an N router with Gigabit ethernet anyway, may as well find one with shareport. Thanks.

You can always look for apple airport extreme base station, linksys 610n and dlink dir 685. These r some good 'n' routers.
