I am looking for a usb powered adsl modem, would be nice if it has linux support.

Do not want any external power adapters.

Can't find them easilly on amazon or ebay, where do i find good ones ?

Thomson Speedtouch ST330 comes to mind all USB modems have their limitations - this one is not ADSL2 modem so it won't run faster than 8mbps down and 1 up.
Also drivers might be a bit problematic but are available for Win 7 and Linux (although the latter might be tricky to set up).

Not a big fan of this solution- I used to have this modem - but it is what you've asked for.

Thanks for the reply, .. this does seems to be one of the good choices, too bad there aren't any newer models with adsl2+ or that have good reputation.

It's not an ideal solution so I guess the idea got dropped. Good news is that you can buy one very cheaply these days so, you wouldn't be risking too much.

The idea has not completely dropped yet, since I am still in a situation where I need to build my own router based on an old laptop to be able to access the internet without any other power source than the laptop itself.

    However, I found this: TP-Link ADSL2+ Modem Router TD-8816

Which is a single port (RJ45) , and takes regular power 5VDC/1A.

And I think I can use 2 usb ports in parallel to provide that much power, although I will need to mod the cables to work like that, and I am not sure whether the usb with the custom cables will be able to provide the full 1amp without any loss of power due to cabling.
