    Hi
right so I have just bought a wireless printer (kodak ESP5250) and after a little playing around I cant seem to get it to connect to my laptop (Sony E-Series) through ad hoc :/ I can create a network (I think it works) but the printer never finds it? does it need to be set up first time through a cable or anything before? it found my access point so it cant be that I don't think but that is not a option as I am at uni and for some reason the wired network means it only lets my computer use it.
    Any ideas pleeeeeeeeeeeeease?
    Cheers

So... it's on the wired network? Or wireless network? How did you set it up on the wireless network?

I really can't make sense of what you're asking. I do know that I had to plug my Samsung wifi printer in with the USB cable to configure it for wifi, and once that was done I just connected to the wifi network with my computer and searched for the printer, and it worked.

my laptop is on a wired connection but im trying to connect the printer wirelessly through ad hoc.

basically, if i search for wireless networks a few do come up (unfortunately I dont know the keys for these so i cant check if they connect to them) but no matter what i seem to do when creating a ad hoc network the printer will never find it. My friend tried creating one on his mac book and my laptop found it and was able to connect but not the printer. His printer is wireless also and connecting to that is very simple, create ad hoc - find it on printer - connect. so i just cant see why the kodak isnt finding it. I have been on a few sites (including the kodak one) and from the very limited amount of information i found it sounds like it should be simple to but ive been through all the settings on the printer and nothing says about ad hoc or peer to peer networks or anything. I even spoke to a kodak bloke on IM on their site and he said it should be like finding a normal wifi network, he then mentioned that "kodak doesnt support advanced networking problems like ad hoc, although my printer should be able to connect to a ad hoc network"
so im thinking either there is like a holy grail of information that i have missed or its broken, im thinking the latter as well
    cheers

hmm think I may have found the reason for it not finding it...
on the box it says it is bg wifi certified, and i know i have seen some things are bgn wifi certified so i checked the ad hoc network that was being created and sure enough it was a 802.11bgn where as the other routers i can see on my laptop are all 802.11g or 802.11n....so is that the cause? if so can i change my ad hoc network to transmit in only g? also I have just thought that the one network i can see which is 802.11n i can see on the printer...if this is the problem i thought i shouldnt be able to see n networks :/ oh dear im confused!

Hard reset your printer, then read the instructions to create a network over again and have it working. Problem Solved.

    Hard reset? How?

Well there is nothing in the instructions about creating a network for the printer because the printer can only join a network, not create one. All it mentions is to connect to a wps or non wps router. I have done this on other printers and they all worked fine, but this one isn't, which is why I wondered if it was not fully wifi capable? Problem not solved.

    Resetting your printer:
    1. Press Home.
    2. Press to select Printer Settings.
    3. Press to select Reset All Settings, then press OK.
    4. When you see the message, “This will reset printer settings to factory defaults,”
    press OK.

here's a direct link to the manual..instructions in section 5 on setting up wifi:

ok wouldnt have thought that was a hard reset to be honest. I thought he would have meant something like hold buttons X & Y for 10 seconds to reset it but ok did that and had a look on the user guide but it doesn't say anything about a ad hoc network.

On my friends HP it is so simple, and from what I have read it should be very simple whats wrong with my printer?! :/

Has anyone got a kodak printer? and ever tried using through a ad hoc network?

already read that, I've taken it back as the Kodak support was not really any use. I really liked the printer though which is annoying but i think I'm going to go to Curry's or something and see if they can get working just in case it was broke :/ if not ill just get a HP or something
thanks you for your help everyone.

Hi, i'm having exactly the same problem as you with my new kodak printer. I'm at university too and therefore have no wireless router to use. Did you get it sorted out in the end? Thanks
