    A problem making a direct connection

    I've been searching for a solution for a long time now, and I still havent figured it out.

    I have a laptop and a desktop computer, and I want to connect them to eachother using a crossover cable I just bought. I've read a dozen HowTo's, but they are no help, becouse they arent troubleshooting the issues I have.

    The only thing I'm not able to do, is to choose "Connect directly to another computer" in new connection wizard. It's gray and not choosable, so I was thinking if anyone knows why isn't it available, and if there's some other way I can connect my two computers :)

    The first thing you'll need to ensure is that both computers have an IP address specified, using a crossover cable with DHCP enabled doesn't work as neither machine will act as a DHCP host. Then i'ts just a matter of making sure that both machines are sharing resources and have at least one folder shared. Also the direct cable connection you were refering to is for using old parallel and serial cables to transfer data, using a crossover cable makes both computers think they are hooked up to a standard network.

    Ps. Be sure to set both machines to the same IP range i.e. 192.168.1.XXX
