Yeah, I noticed this a lot.

There's two other's in somewhere in my neighborhood running 'linksys' unsecured networks.

I'm the only person in the area with a secured (WPA2) wireless network.

Even when I first got into wireless, when I was 14, I knew I needed to set up the security, and that was back when I knew basically nothing about computer.

Scary thought people still don't have their networks secured, indeed.

there are a couple of unsecure wireless connection near my house, my computer always ask to join that unsecure network when i jumped to the no-signal zone in my house. though i always resist temptation coz i know it is wrong. i used to brought my pda around; and everytime i visit a neighbourhood there is a good chance that some wifi network is unsecured. though i always resist temptation. my advice is; dont use wireless router unless u know how to configure it. use wired ethernet connection instead.

What's funny is when I go to my girlfriend's apartment, there are always 5-10 networks showing, and I've only ever seen one without security of some sort enabled. Some are just WEP, but it's still better than being completely free and clear.
