I'm using a wireless network at a local institution of higher learning and I keep getting this "connect to a 8957.XXXX.net window. For some reason it's asking me for a user name and password. I'm already using the network I want so I have no idea why it keeps prompting me.

I've canceled it three times but it keeps coming back. Solutions?

wouldn't the "Holder of the Standard Repository of All Knowledge and Information" already have an answer for this? Or at least know to list the Operating System so he could get help?

    Two possibilities
In IE, go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS and delete anything in that box that matches that string.

If XP, is there anything in Network Neighborhood that matches that?

Well aren't you the cleaver one. Few people actually ever read that. In any event, it doesn't stand for one single reservoir rather, a collection of independent information stores and my ability to access them. Wouldn't you say it works quite well?

Well that off topic, don't you think? Windows Vista
I found nothing in either case. It's the first time I've ever had this to occur.

It is necessary since networking is different between XP and Vista. Your pop up could be a network neighbor connection or perhaps a vpn conneciton. To give you good information on where to resolve it, I need to know what OS.

In order to get help, you need to provide as much information as possible. If you don't wish to get good help, then you're doing just fine.

These networks are extremely dangerous in public areas. It can be used to preform in-the-middle attacks and capture all of your login info.

Auto connect to wireless should be disabled for Security Reasons.
