I just purchased a HP dv2500t (vista home premium) with Intel 4965AGN and a D-link DIR-655 so 802.11n is suppose to work.
I have downloaded the newest firmware 1.03 for the router and the newest driver for my intel 4965 but it still won't switch to 802.11n
when I go into "Connect to a network" and move over to the network i set up with my router it'll display, Radio Type: 802.11g

and when I go to my router configuration --> Status --> wireless status
    it also says 802.11g

    can anyone help me?

Are there any other wireless users around? I heared that when there are G users around N routers switch to use G.

for those who are experiencing the same problems, I just figured it out couple minutes ago.
I switched the wireless setting fom Mixed to 802.11n only, and I changed the security mode to None then BAM! my network card is now running at 144mbps

    hope this helps

Security settings of non is not a good idea. Any user with a laptop that is with in range can now log in. I guess since you use N only it limits it to people with draft N cards but still very risky.

The downside to that too is that N has a much further range :p so that increase the chance that somebody can get a signal from your network.

I read something similar elsewhere seems "n" networks still need abit of time to mature.

You need some kind of security, Add at least WPA better yet WPA2

I'm having the same problem. dv6500t trying to run with DIR-655. With WPA/WPA2 enabled, the dv6500t sees it as a 802.11g network and will not connect properly. This is running the dir-655 in 802.11n mode only.

Go to your IE/Firefox/etc. Address bar and put in 192.168.1.1 - then in your router settings, look for an option for B/G/N. It should be in there. Just switch it to N. That should work

EDIT: i see what you said about settings, but i didnt know if you meant this...

The DIR-655 is working with mine with WPA2, but I'm using the Dell wireless card, so that might be why.

For 11n you need to run WPA Personal AES security, if your using TKIP it will not work.

    silly boy, try wpa2 w/ aes , n only

ur a lil crazy if you don't use any security, but you could turn don the router power, turn off the radio broadcast, etc, but what's the point....

enable wpa2 security so i can slepp at night.....

i'm not sure, we wemt through several netgear n routers and they were easy to configure as I remember....., much more so than the D-Link

type in the 192.168.0.1 in your browser or whatever the default is, and play around with the settings. we got 270mps w/ the netgear, but at that time we also had netgear adapters. in fact, we picked 1 up about a month ago off ebay for $30- factory refurbished and only a 30 day guarantee and sent it to my brother. He loves it....
