any adapters out there yet for 802.11ac?

I see the netgear a6200 which supports 900mbps on 5ghz 802.11ac but being usb 2.0 it is limited to 480mbps! so why is it being advetised as 900mbps when it will only reach half of that... why no usb 3.0 which would make sense

My mini pci-e n300 2x2 killer 1102 reaches 27 MB/s sustained on 5ghz N, which is the max real world throughput on usb 2.0, so you would not get higher than 300mbps on the a6200... so no where near the quoted 900mbps 802.11 ac speed, image the quad stream 1300mpbs 802.11ac 2.0 usb adapters they will bring out!, you would get a quater of the quoted speed the usb 2.0 bottleneck

So any usb 3.0 802.11ac or mini pci-e adapters out or coming out, I now buffalo tested a mini pci-e version recently...

    quote from netgear a6200 spec..

the NETGEAR A6200 is only dual-stream, so it only supports 300 Mbps maximum link rates in either band when used with 802.11abgn routers or access points and 900 Mbps in 5 GHz when connected to draft 802.11ac (we forgot to mention the 480mpbs USB 2.0 bottleneck!)

It just a link rate but it doesn't mean it can be consistently be at that rate.

Most consumer network devices are designed to achieve around 33% at max theoretical link rate.

And those who can do a bit more gets much more expensive.

There is no real incentive to improve the physical limitations due to cost and lack of sufficient demand.

Ehh you can get 50% typically with good signal, at least I always have been able to.

Also 802.11ac is the new hotness, just like when G came out then N.

Anyone know if there are any 802.11ac mini pcie cards out yet? Preferably ones that also support A/B/G/N

Yes you can get 50% or a little more of the max rate given that you have a very good router and that your wireless environment is almost completely deserted (i.e. 5GHz band ot living in the boonies), but for most people this kind of scenario isn't really feasible or they aren't willing to drop a good 100$ or more on a router. Also keep in mind that AC is still in it's early stages so it'll be a while until we can see hardware that can really push it.

EDIT: Just saw the thread necromancy, oh well, still relevant info.

Yeah its a little bit old, but not that bad, and this sub-forum moves slow.

How about the 802.11ac mini pcie adapter though. Does anyone know if one exists, and where to get it?

Sort of- still nothing that supports three streams on 5GHz which makes a purchase pointless in my opinion.

It's possible that an upcoming AMPED ACA1 High Power will use USB 3 but that's not yet confirmed.

Same reason why I haven't made the switch. not enough products backing the newer speeds. Was hoping this changed by now.

My guess is Intel is going to treat us to some ac cards when Haswell hits the market. But that's just speculation.

Now this is something I wish they would hurry up and do. I'm all about moving files across wifi and those files are never small.

I hear you. I need proper speeds to access my NAS (soon to be two NASes) and neither two stream 802.11n nor three stream Wi-Fi is going to do the job properly.
I would like to see some Wi-Fi cards capable of doing three stream ac speeds and I wouldn't mind less ridiculous prices on ac routers.

yeah, they are a bit pricey. someone has a mini pcie adapter, but it seems to be a bit hard to find at the moment. i wsould love to at least test it for a week to see if it is really as they say it is. if so. i would be all over this i think. right after my 3940xm :)
