My dad was thinking about upgrading our DSL to 7Mbps. Right now it is 1.5Mbps and my and my brother and not able to play online games at the same time on two different computers.

So I was wondering if it is possible to have two computers gaming online with a 7Mbps connection? It would be awesome for me and my brother to be playing in the same BF2 game. :D

You can get a router and split the connection that way, If you have wireless cards you can get a wireless router and go around the house(in fact I online on the couch).

Yeah both Computers have wireless cards. That isn't the problem.

The question is will 7Mbps be enough to allow both computers to be online at the same time playing the same game?

Thanks anyways and welcome to the forum :)

It should, I have about a 3-4mb cable connection on a wireless card(intel wireless pro) and can play halo and call of duty online without problems.

It really depends more on the latency then overall speed. You can have a 100MBs internet connection, but if you have a high latency games will lag. The 1Mb connection I had about 3 years ago allowed me and a friend or two to play Halo, StarCraft, Diablo II, or Rogue Spear online all at the same time.

This should be more than enough. But some game serrvers, not BF2, may see the multiple connection as a clone and attempt to drop one. gl

Also consider the upload speed. Whatever your download, if your upload is limited to something like 256kbps your going to have problems.

Sorry for being a noob at this topic but how do you determine the latency of a connection?

Good point. What do you think a good upload speed would be?

I don't know of any way to test it other than just jump in and play the games and see if it lags or hangs any.

Well it looks like we are going to make the switch to Qwest DSL with MSN and see how that goes. Up above someone said that 256kbps would not work with two computers playing online. This new DSL will have Up to 7Mbps download/Up to 896Kbps upload. Should this work?

    Thanks for everyones help :)
