    4965AGN shows as 4965AG and max 2MBps network speed. 5100 in same laptop 8 -9MBps

    I'm running W7 Pro 64-bit on an 8510P using first an Intel 4965AGN and for some reason the OS recognizes it as a 4965AG and the maximum network speed is 2MBps so to rule out the WiFi card I installed an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and sure enough, this card gets 8 - 9MBps when transferring files across the network.

    Is there any known issue with the 4965AGN and improper recognizing of the card by the drivers or W7 Pro that I should be aware of?

    I sold the laptop to a friend and told him it has a Wireless N card which it does as this is the 3x antenna 4965AGN card and it even says 4965AGN on the card but for the life of me I cannot get the card to work at it's rated speed so I had to borrow the 5100 from another friend for the time being till I can find a solution for the 4965AGN. If anything I can buy the 5100 from my friend for the 8510P but I know the 4965 should work just fine and unlike the 5100 supports Draft-N.

    Both 4965AG and 4965AGN are three-antenna-cards. The number of antennae hasn't got much of anything to do with the bands that they're accessing. AG is effectively the same card as AGN with the "N" range disabled on the hardware level.

    5100 is a full dual-band "N" card.

    Which router are we discussing here?

    Hmm, it appears the card is indeed actually an AG and not AGN. It's confusing as it has both 4965AG and 4965AGN for a model but I guess it's a 4965AG after all which makes no sense for it to have both 4965AG and 4965AGN listed on the card.

    Well, that sucks. Guess I'll just have to get an N card for the 8510 so I can either buy this 5100 for $10 from my friend or wait a week or so to get a 4965AGN off of eBay for $5.

    Just remember that HP (like Lenovo and Panasonic) has a tendency of "whitelisting" wireless cards, so make sure to get a proper one...
