I have been trying to use the built-in wireless 802.11g with a Dlink DI-614+. It will connect and work fine for about 5 minutes and then slow way down to about 20 kbs download speads. I went to the http://www.ralinktech.com site and installed the 3.0.1 driver and software for the RT2500. It did not help.

If I connect to my friends Netgear WGR614 802.11g wireless router, the wireless connection works great.

I tried connection to a Netgear 802.11b wireless router and got slow 20kbs download speeds.

I thought 802.11g was backward compatible with 802.11b?

You're right, B is backward with G. You might try upgrading the firmware in your router along with your wireless card.
