    2200bg 5 bars but reports poor signal

    i have a nx8220 for the last week and have tried all different settings and advice from others to no avail

    intel 2200bg driver ver 9.0.3.9 with a netgear dg834g V2

    sitting a few meters away from the netgear box showing full 5 bars but signal quaility fluctuates from good to poor and speeds of 54 down to 11, upgraded firmware on netgear box to no avail

    switched to a linksys wag54g with the same outcome

    any ideas anyone

    went to see my brother today and had a full 2 hours at 54, went from there to my dads got 54 for all the time, got back home with the netgear and got speed drops all over the place...

    Ok are there any cordless phones near, tv's, kitchen appliances right by the router?

    It all comes down to the drivers and router being used. I used to have the older drivers and had this speed problem, but as soon as I switched to the newer drivers, the speed issue is gone. Others have tried the new drivers and the same speed problem occurs, the only difference is their router. I use an SMC myself and have been for a while now and I don't get any speed problems at all. You may want to compare the router types you have vs your family.
