ok so just want to run this past the more experienced networking guru's.

I have 3 laptops that I want all wired.

I'm renting so I only get one LAN port on the wall which is connected to a switch/router which is connected to the modem. This I have no control over.

so can I attach a switch router to this LAN and have it serve all my devices by wire? I know in theory it should work...

also if I get a 1000mbps switch/router, will I get 1000mbps between my devices (all support 1000mbps) even if the switch that is out of my control is 100mbps? (I assume I can). the 1000mbps would be nice when copying large files between machines...

    Thanks, yuio.

    think of getting: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124407

and just turning off he wireless functionality.

Yes- all devices connected to a 1Gbps switch will work at this speed even if the switch itself is connected to something slower up in the food-chain.
    Nice price for E2000 BTW.
