    Hi guys,

I have the UL30VT that came with AR9285 half-height card. It's a bgn card. I wanted the 5ghz (a band). So I purchased two cards and have absolutely nothing but trouble with them:

    a) Intel 5100 - it is detected in Win7x64 Ultimate as Intel 5100 BG. My non-half height Intel 5100 in my HDX18T shows up as Intel 5100 AGN. The issue is, the signal is very poor when installed in the UL30VT and my 5ghz AP is not showing up. At one time, when I tried to set it to 5ghz band under the driver properties, if locked up my computer.

    b) Atheros AR9280 based card (Sparklan WPEA-111N) - Nothing but trouble with this one. Win7 detected this correctly, but the extremely weak signal, would not even connect with my 2.4ghz router. The 5ghz band shows up randomly and won't even connect as well. I truly think this is a driver issue. Atheros Client Utility doesn't appear to work in Win7.

Can anyone help? If not, a suggestion for another half-height card with ABGN band? FYI, the AR9285 Azurewave card (BGN band only) that came with UL30VT has only one antenna installed. I installed a second shorter antenna and it boosted the signal significantly. Both the cards above have both antenna plugged in correctly. Thanks for your help.

5300 is capable of ABGN. I have both half and full height versions. All works great with my Linksys WRT320N operating at the 5GHz band.

Got mine from eBay: the half-height one is Dell's OEM (use it in Dell Studio 17) and the full size ones seem to be generic (at least both work perfectly on my Fujitsu LifeBook and Dell Mini). All have MAC addresses written on labels match the hardware addresses.

weak signal? did you connect antenna?
in fact the weak signal is not bad , it meets the radiation standard.
but antenna is not radiation .
