Is it possible to have a dsl service for my two computers upstairs and a dsl service for my downstairs gaming computer? All from the same company? Or is it you can only have one dsl connection.

    Thanks

You to run the modem into a router then run all the PCs into the router (unless it's wireless router :))

Yes but using a router is wireless therefore the signal can be lost reulting in slower speeds, I would prefer just ordering two dsl packages and go straight through a modem on my two computers, is this possible?

i believe he wants to know if he can have two services...so the other computers dont use up the bandwidth for the gaming computer...and the gaming service may have a faster upload.

im not sure if the phone line gets maxed out with the gaming dsl service or if could handle that much bandwidth total....call your isp!!

Yes, it is possible to purchase an additional phone line and DSL service. You will also have to pay for another phone line to be installed in your residence, which usually isn't cheap.

I highly recommend using a router and going wireless, or if you are really worried about packet loss, run CAT-5e cable from the router to each PC. File transfers are where a wired connection is better than wireless (but with 802.11n you'd need gigabit ethernet to be faster), not internet connections. Why waste all that money when you won't see any speed difference?

my gaming pc is downstairs while the others are upstairs, so using a wire isnt really possible, the CAT wire you were talking about

Of course it's possible. If the home is wood framed, you just run the cable in wall, through the floor, to whatever room you want. If you have a cinderblock home, you'll have to drill through the floor. It isn't easy, but it is possible.

It will certainly be cheaper to run the cable yourself - paying someone to do it can be pricy. And it will certainly be expensive to have the phone company install a brand new line.

It is possiable to have multiple service if you have FIOS, but the network is Cat5e, not a phone line. A DSL will require a second phone line as mentioned above. If your concern about bandwidth, see if your router is supported by dd-wrt. If so you can control the bandwidth. If you put everyone one one service you may want to spend the extra money for a faster dsl line.

Running cat5e cable is not hard. You will just need to know what wall that goes up, has open access. Most cases you can follow the phone lines.
