Alright this is from another thread in windows OS section.

he is getting like 0ms using wireless g. How is that possible? I am getting 1ms on a netgear 3700 using cat6 cables.

my screenshot. I am pinging my router. That is the closest thing with the lowest ping. Note the random high ping in each test. I think something with my network card on laptop is not performing well.

I think it might depend on how much the router has to do ;)

When I was accessing the router my ping got a bit slower :D
Else, I can actually browse the web along the side :)

    349 pings :D

I get ~0.9ms to my wndr3700 on 2.4GHz. I'm not sure how the algorithm works for windows, it may be rounding down.

    ping "IP-Adress" -t

    That's continuous

    edit:
    no -c in Vista.

ok i redid it and it goes 8ms and then 1ms constant.... going to try wireless now

EDIT: I tried wired and surfing internet pages that had lots of images and it stayed at 1ms the whole time

    Now i did wireless
I get 1ms-5ms Which is what i figured would be normal but how do you guys get 1ms and <1ms....grrr

now doing internet surfing i get
    now i get 1ms-8ms...mostly 1ms-7ms.
It also hung for like 2 seconds once on a website game and when surfing once in a while jumps in the 10s or 20s.

So how is urs more constant and faster than my cat6????

Yeah, I get ~0.2ms on gigabit ethernet. Why does it matter anyway? A 0 ping is obviously a fluke or an error. He could also be pinging a loopback interface, lol.

I was pinging my home server, there is actually one screenshot that showed all computers on the network.

The second one I also did on several IP Addresses :)

IP addresses can be set up for loopback, that was my point, but I get under 1ms on my wndr3700 running openwrt, whether it's wired or wireless. Windows probably rounds down the number or gives less precision than a unix ping utility.

i just don't get how wireless is 1ms or less i thought it was higher. my wireless is 1-8ms and his is 1ms or less. My Ethernet isn't even that low....

EDIT: I use regular firmware...would that make a difference?

I dunno if firmware makes a difference, I've always used openwrt. I can't recommend it though -- unless you're into doing daily builds and bricking it occasionally.

Why are you concerned about a few ms? Are you looking to set up a stock exchange? :p

i do trade stocks so that is a good reason to make it faster :p I am just baffled on how wifi is faster than my cat6....i thought wifi had anywhere from 1-5ms worse latency no matter what....due to it being radio and not cable and due to interference....btw i got lots of that...give me one set...here check this out lol

    ImageShack Album - 2 images

the sanders guy is a ...he spams like 8 channels....he used to use 2 and 6 and that reached all the way to channel 9 or 10.

EDIT: you dont see it in screen shot but sanders covers 1-7 channels. used to be 1-9 channels....jerk

Yeah that explains it really, you've got too much interference from other networks.

yea but how does your wifi beat my cat 6 lol

Is radios penetrating my nice cat 6 shielding?

EDIT: Still shocked that wifi is 1ms or less.....never knew it was that fast.

EDIT: I admit i was wrong....gladly wrong lol

I don't know how to explain your wired latency... but I'm not sure it's a problem. A 1ms ping isn't really too shabby, you could try a different utility to compare results. I get an occasional 5ms+ ping on ethernet.
