Like many of you probally have, I have a SanDisk 2Gb cruzer micro thumb drive. There is a feature with the cruzersync software from U3 I've used a bit called 'Secure Browsing'. How secure is that and what exactly does it do. Does it make you 'anonymous' on the web, secure all data exchanged over ANY internet connection? I just want to know the basics on how it works. I know its encrypted, but I'm not sure what it encrypts. Thanks for your help!

Also, what is out there that I can use to surf the web anonymously? Just to cover tracks. I don't like the fact that companies use your internet habits and sell them for marketing purposes. This Big Brother stuff just kinda freaks me out. But I know there isn't a surefire to avoid it all...

"Secure Browsing simply means that all your Temporary Internet files and cookies are stored on the flash drive, not on the computer you're using. Then it totally removes them when you shut down. (Makes it harder for the boys in the black helicopters to see where you've been. :D ) It doesn't do anything to protect your privacy while on line. It does not make you "anonymous" on the web.

    From SanDisk Cruzer FAQ (http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1288)--
About the only way to surf the web anonymously is to disable cookies in your browser, and never "register" or "log in" on anything. Trouble with disabling cookies is that many web sites nowadays won't function properly without cookies.

So the next best bet is to have the latest and greatest anti-spyware, anti-adware, and anti-virus on your system. These do a very good job of blocking the stuff that can be used for marketing. There are lots of good choices.

If you want to surf anonymously you will need to go through a proxy and one that changes the IP every so often, like daily. And some allow this through a SSL connection for more security. Do a search on google and you will find many solutions. I just read a article on TomsHardware Guide a couple of days ago. I don't see it on the main page any more. It may have been a link to smallnetbuilder, I did not notice.

some proxies are not good, some proxies run through fed honeypots and are not worth it, others are transparent and without running proper tests on them you won't find out. Run Tor.
