    How do they work?

Do I need a router in order for wireless printer to work wirelessly, or simply a wireless connection?

I'll be purchasing a laser printer with wireless capability for dorm. My dorm has a wireless connection.

So how would this work? For example, say my dorm's wireless is named 'DormWireless.'

    Thanks!

Do you have a laptop connected to the 'DormWireless' connection? Well it's as simple as connecting a laptop's wireless adapter to a wireless connection.

All you need is a wireless connection and the encryption key if one is needed for the wireless connection. And I'm sure the instructions that comes with the printer will guide you through the rest of the setup just fine. So no you don't need to get another wireless router.

I do know with the the HP wireless printer I have currently setup that to setup the connection all you had to do was connect a usb cable from the printer to the computer and run the CD. That should transfer all the data from the wireless settings saved on the computer from your dorm's network into the printer and work.

There probably a manual feature aswell, but the disk is easy enough. You should not need a wireless router like makaveli has said (Plus I don't think your school would like you using another external router in your dorm room (always ways around it though if needed!)
