hi, longtime lurker here.
i've been reading up on the gt725 thread. pretty much every page.
but there are really no explicit instructions as to several things, for newbies that is. such as..
-what are the essential downloads i need once i get the laptop (ie, links to drivers (ati? msi? whatever.. this is for nubs who have no idea what the hell they're doing)
-some people have been having issues with the drive partition. what would be the most optimal partition? or is it simpler to just have one drive? again, some instruction would be appreciated.
-is there some way of running windows7 on one drive and vista on the other?
-just general tips on how to get the laptop up and running would be very much appreciated. i'm sure these answers are in the forums somewhere but it'd take quite a while to sift through everything.

I just got mine today, and I can tell you that at soon as you turn it on, it will set itself up, nothing needs to be installed by disc.
As soon as you are up and running, just 'turning on' or plugging in anything will auto-install it (of course you'll have to do the usual Windows Updates etc). For example, I was trying DESPERATELY to find the friggin Webcam drivers, because it said there was no webcam installed, I spent about 30 minutes looking for them before noticing the Webcam button, pressed the button, it installed itself and was ready to go lol. Same went for Bluetooth and Wifi, very simple.
I dont know about Windows 7, but be prepared to get the 32-bit version of Vista, why I have no idea...
But yea, plug it in, turn it on, and its basically auto pilot. -
download latest directx from microsoft.
two tools I consider ESSENTIAL.
Rmclock (Reason great for undervolting the cpu to run a bit cooler(doesn't effect or improve performance but can give a bit more battery life)) and has ability to monitor the CPU temp on task bar.

and ATI tray Tool Beta ( used to monitor ATI's GPU (temps clocks FPS etc etc) in game or on the task bar)

i will add all the things you ask for aswell i did ask people for feedback in my thred what they want me to add so its easy for new owner but did nt recieve much feedback.
Have a look here and tell me what do u want me to add and i wll no problem

hey hero,
thanks for your response.
haven't gotten a chance to respond.
i have two points i'd like to make..
-if i'm understanding you right, the 'necessary' downloads i need for the gt725 are
-all of the drivers from the link you provided
-ati catalyst 9.3
-anything else i'm missing?
the other point i'd like to make..
-how do i partition drives? because i'd like to 1.) try out windows 7 on one of the drives and 2.) supposedly, people say a computer runs faster if you separate the operating system from all of the data? i really have no idea what i'm talking about.. perhaps someone can enlighten me. -
also, any other tidbits would help. i've seen people who've had trouble setting up their gt725s for whatever reason. would like to avoid so if possible.
thanks. -
I just ordered mine ytd as well, hopefully will arrive next week.
Can't wait XD -
did you buy a warranty as well?
(concealed bump as well!) -
It's a UK version which comes with Q9000 instead of P9500. Also two-years warranty is inclusive, so I didn't bother extending it. -
Can you please tell me .. What is The LCD resolution 1920x1200 WSXGA+ or 1680x1050 WUXGA ?? is it Matte (non Glare) OR glossey (Glare) ?
Thanks -
thanks for the info
only HDD needs to be 7200 RPM
Good luck with your new laptop -
But whoever is interested in this type of laptop would be extremist anyway, they wouldn't care much about the capacity of HDD but the speed. A bit of head scratch there.
So wish they had it on 7200rpm
tips for newbie gt725 owners?
