Ok, a while back i had trouble getting planet earth to play when i realized that i don't have the blue ray version, instead i have the hd-dvd. I'm not sure but i am guessing that the player on the gt627 does not play hd dvd? I have all the latest drivers for my blue ray so i'm guessing that the blue ray can't read hd-dvd's. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes I can confirm this :p

A bluray drive can only read bluray discs, while an HD-DVD drive (don't think those exist) can only read HD-DVDs. Both can read regular dvds I believe

If you really want an HD DVD drive for your laptop, ebay has quite a few for ~$100. As long as you don't mind waiting 2 weeks for it to arrive from Hong Kong. I just bough a slot loading Blu Ray drive for my 1722 ID2 for $140.
