how hot are MSI's supposed to get? I know the temps will differ between each model, but mine gets to about 80+ degrees Celsius. Thats on a flat counter with all the vents open.

I sent it in to msi so they can check it out and re-do the thermal paste. I would have done that myself, but they said they would void my warranty.

So far im not happy with this MSI. I almost bought an ASUS, and now im wishing i did.

Ok, MSI are great laptops, The AMD platforms due tend to run hotter than the intel platforms. I need to know is the 80+c from gaming or heavy tasks? The best thing to do is keep it elevated, raised up. You can get a laptop cooler to help temps come down to. 80c isnt damaging to the system though, I try and keep my temps below 76c.

that was at idle. Im afraid to do any gaming or heavy tasks. I not only sent it in because of the heat, but it also will not book sometimes. It will act like its starting, but then go back to the splash screen.

Yeah it should never be that hot at idle. As long as the vents and fan is clear of dust and dirt it should be fine but on yours something is wrong indeed. Hopefully MSI will get it all sorted for you.

I have a feeling it was just the heatsinks weren't seated properly. My 1651 is the only laptop I have ever had this kind of problem with. It can just be tricky sometimes to make sure everything is getting proper contact.
