I have had little issues with the laptop since day 1. i.e. I hold the power button for about 2 seconds on power up, I got a black screen and nothing else. No icons on the laptop come on and the hard disk doesn't flash. Need to power off then on. The other issue is it just hangs can't move pointer, etc. Have to power off / on again.
This morning I powered it on and booted up was about to go to the internet when I got a completely white screen with thin black lines down across the whole screen. I had to power it off then on and when it came back up and I got to the main screen the system hangs. So I powered off and left off for 20 mins. Powered on this time it booted go to the home screen and after the hard drive stops accessing the pointer has 4 small white lines about a half inch in length. I can not click on any desk top icon, start, etc. Plus it also is running extremely warm.
I have emailed Xoticpc as I have had the laptop only about 10 days or so.
Any suggestions to try? Getting frustrated with this laptop.

    thanks

Sounds like the GPU is fried to me, or its badly overheating, but yeah if its extremely warm, itl definately be overheat/broken gpu.

I would not be surprised if it is indeed the GPU. The heatsink obviously does not make good contact with the die on these models. I would try removing the power cable, removing the battery and then reseating the memory for starters. If you are daring enough you can remove the heatsink and examine thermal paste on the heatsink to see if it has spread evenly over the die. Or, you can just RMA it, but I'm sure you'll still have the heat issues.

The laptop has a core i5-540 and Xoticpc did the ICD-7 paste job. So if it is the GPU which is what I thought of also. Then maybe they will have me send it back to them.

It would really help if you could put up some pics.

And Btw there are lot of ppl here at NBR ready to declare your GPU dead and not just here at MSI, I have seen it at Asus too, and Of course my own case.

Btw my case was very similar, see below, is that of any sort?
