Just got my new laptop last night and started fiddling on it.
I noticed it came with win home 64 preloaded and it appears all MSI software and drivers are present.

I was wondering, should I be going through the MSI driver cd and installing everything or just stick with whatever is there? Or alternatively should I go on the MSI website and download the drivers there for the GT780DX?
For instance I see a driver for Intel(R) 6 Series Chipset but my processor is an i7... is that driver for something else or would it help improve performance.

I did already go to nvidia and installed the newest GTX 570 driver for my video card.

Yet, the laptop seems relatively slow....slower than my old desktop with lower specs. I dont really get it. I ran diablo 3 beta and seems choppy at times while my desktop handles it fine. I tried in both 1080 and in 760 with not much luck. My programs also seems relatively slow to launch at times but I havent had time to go into too much depth for testing. I figured maybe its a driver thing.

    Any suggestions?
I did run a benchmark test that came preloaded heaven benchmark and got a score of 880 or something close to that. Ran mostly at 32fps during test in 1080.

You should format and install a fresh copy of Windows. Then go to MSI's website and download the updated drivers. There is no reason this laptop should stutter doing anything. Don't worry, it will be instant once we figure out whats going on with it.

Most of us are running Battlefield 3 on Ultra with our overclocked 570's. There is no reason why she wouldn't be able to chew threw those sloppy graphics of Diablo 3.

Hmm I may have to do that anyways soon because I plan on getting a 120g intel520 SSD for my OS. until then, i am hoping I can figure this out. Do you know how I can view my FPS in games such as d3? Do people use a 3rd party application to be able to tell their fps in all games or do they usually just use whatever is embedded in the game?

Im also suspicious that maybe the lag is due to internet...although it works great on my desktop, what if the network card that comes with this laptop with the curent drivers is just not doing a good job for instance? If I could view the fps i would then at least know if its the graphic card or something else. I will also test on other games asap when i can get them.

One more question, the documentation on this specific model was sort of weak but I believe the instruction manual shows there are 2 hard disk enclosure...the tech specs on MSI were unhelpful. Question 1....do you know for sure there are 2 hard disk bays and question 2 is do you know if i would void my warranty b y opening it and adding a SSD hard disk or Ram?

Internet could be the problem. Maybe it's your router. Is your Desktop hard wired or does it use wireless as well? I don't know which wireless card your using. We all have something different. I customized mine with a Bigfoot Wireless n1103 (3 antenna).

Download a program called Fraps. It will allow you to see the FPS in any game.

What kind of router are you using?
    What card do you have?

Lastly, go into your Internet Adapter Settings and click on Status under your Wireless Connection. Let me know what speed it's connecting to your router at.

Ill have to check from home tonight. I think I have the atheorus or whatever network card but may be wrong there. I was connected with a wire. My router is a cheap tplink. My pc is wired to the same router and plays d3 with no problems...so id suspect the laptop network card would be the problem IF its latency as opposed to graphic lag.

thanks for the advice on fraps ill get that too. Do you know other softwares I should be getting to test my pc performance? Such as processor power, heat etc.

Use Hardware Monitor by CPUID for temps.

Run 3DMARK11 and PCMARK. Then compare your scores with others here to make sure your score is in the same ball park.

    Ill do that tonight hopefully.

I did have a chance to install fraps yesterday and I played Diablo 3 again and realized I was in the 70-80 ball park even when i got the lag spikes so the lag has to be related to internet. I have an intel centrino wireless network card althoguh it was hard wired at the time. I did not think of testing it further as I had other errands to do.

I also installed crysis 2 and at full details at 1080 resolution I was achieving 29-32 fps with occasional spiked to 40fps and no noticeable lag at all.

All in all pretty satisfied with the performance I am seeing so far. It also appears the general operations in windows are much smoother now...perhaps some background updates were taking place when i tested before.

I guess now I just need to figure out why i get lag in diablo and if its an issue with my network card being junk.

If you are wired to the router then you should get a good connection. The WiFi light to the right of the Power-On button should be off while using the wired Lan.

Update your Realtek Lan GBE driver and Intel wireless driver.

    Realtel GBE Lan v7.050.0116.2012:
    Realtek drivers Network
    Intel Wireless v15.0.0.75:
intel drivers pour chipsets Reseaux (Lan) & Wifi (Wireless)

Your Intel RST and Chipset software should also be updated to newest WHQL versions.

thanks a lot all. Very helpful info.

By the way, if one of you know a lot about these laptops and how to add a hard disk, i made another post asking for info on how to do it as i am getting ready to get a new SSD HD for it.
