    Crap... come on MSI...
What about us in the USA...

    Both Frost Computers (P8700 version - $1359):
    http://www.frostycomputers.com/MSI_GT725_gaming_notebook_Radeon_4850_HD_P8600_p/gt729-001us.htm

    And XoticPC (P8600 version - $1299):
    http://www.xoticpc.com/gt729-wsxga-order-p-2633.html?wconfigure=yes

...Are still in the pre-order status. I want to grab this laptop (XoticPC's pricetag is more tantalizing), I've been eyeing it since I was on the fence with this (MSI GT729) and the Asus G71GX-RX05. Now that Best Buy has decided to up their price to the same as the MSI GT729, the decision is alot easier now. MSI GT729 FTW! I have patience though but only for so long MSI...

I do wonder a bit though, if I grab the 64bit (upgrade = $140+ more) - will I get the 64bit version of Windows 7?

Dude, if you DON'T grab the 64bit upgrade, you still get the 64bit version of Windows 7

Yeah do not waste $140 to have them install windows on it for you, Windows licensing works for the version (home premium, Ultimate, etc.) meaning that each license of windows has access to both 32bit and 64bit of that version. Besides you would want to reinstall anyways when Windows 7 comes out so just install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and if they send you a 32bit only windows 7 disc you can call up Microsoft give them your key and they will send you a 64bit install disc.

    I just wondered guys...
I planned on grabbing a 64bit Windows Vista by *cough* other means, I just wondered if I needed to purchase the 64bit Vista to get the 64bit Windows 7. If the access code works for both (32bit and 64bit), than the matter is solved.

Hopefully us in the USA get the GT729 late this August or beginning of September...

I just can't wait to get this laptop, the last time i called xoticpc about whether i'm gonna get it before moving back to school they told me they cannot guarantee me on the specific release date, but it all up to MSI and their still waiting on them.
Hope the US version get release soon

The GT729 WSXGA+ ( GT729-248US) will have the P8700 only, the specs were updated recently by the manufacture. The ETA on this model is mid-september, nothing more exact at this time.

There is no ETA at this time from the manufacture for the WUXGA model in the USA.

If you want or are thinking about or nee dlinux forget this model. Go with one with an nVidia GPU as the linux catalyst X drivers = fail.

Thanks for the heads up rob, I'm really looking forward to this computer - I wonder why they keep on pushing it back, August was suppose to be the month it was suppose to come out. I mean, what could they be doing?
More tests or what not. I could be optimistic and HOPE they are fixing the keyboard layout but current pics say it's still the same. Hopefully those are pics of the GT725 and no one has pics of the GT729 yet?

I'd still want it anyway, I'm just hoping MSI maybe listened to their customers about the keyboard. If they don't fix the squeezed in keyboard (with that bar on the left side killing the space), hopefully they switched the FN key with the left ctrl key, even if they didn't I'm sure I can pop the keys around and reassign the keys.

Thanks again Rob, hopefully you aren't getting bombarded by orders, I'd like to grab one without too much of a wait period. I'll be switching from xoticpc to you now though Rob ;)!

What are your rates for shipping to Texas by the way (Fedex, USPS, UPS)...

Pretty much. Although nobody has gotten one yet, so we don't know if there's any minor changes here or there. I would love to hear that they had started using better quality LCD panels, that's one of the things holding me back from a 725/729.

Thanks for that link as well, the pics on that page does have me wondering a bit though...
Did they remove that obnoxious bar on the left side of the keyboard (it only had the power button on it) that was on the GT725. It cramped the keyboard so badly, it made a ton of the keys on the keyboard HAVE TO go smaller like the shift key, arrow keys, etc.
It would be awesome if it was true if they finally removed that bar, it's easy to put the power button anywhere on a laptop. Now all they would need to do left is swap that FN key with the shift key (fiasco on the GT725) and I would be a happy camper in regards to the keyboard (I know I could do it myself but...)

Those pics you're referring to look like a 15" model. I'd say the 729 layout is still the same (as the 725)

That would suck then, I'm hoping/being optimistic that MSI is pushing the date back more and more of the GT729 means they are trying to fix the keyboard....

I believe the reason for the bar, as silly as it sounds, is to be able to fit the same keyboard as the 627/1651/620 models. Cheaper for MSI to make only one size keyboard.

Don't get your hopes up. I think its more likely they delayed the GT729 to wait for GT725 inventory to sell. Expect the GT729 to be a GT725 + DDR3 + 1GB VRAM.

Don't you have anything better to do than to get on a thread where people are using a ATI GPU and start bagging them out? You did this with the GT725 owners lounge too.

I bought my GT725 from there, couldn't be happier with the service and communication. They posted the day I layed the money down too. I would strongly reconmend them.

The GT729 will have the same keyboard as the GT725 did.. Only changes are DDR3 memory, P8700 CPU or Quad Core, and the 1Gb version of the 4850

It will work. I have a desktop PC with an ATI card and I can play CS/HL with linux. But you have to know that Linux is not (well not right now) intended for games.

Best thing you can do is dual boot Linux/Windows. Linux for every day task & internet and Windows just for games.
It's amazing how fast Linux is.

Hey guys, when I ordered my 729 from xoticpc it showed 2x blu-ray as an included feature. My order confirmation shows the same. But now when I look at any of the websites selling the 729, they all show blu-ray as an upgrade option. Anyone know whether I'm getting blu-ray or not?

The blu-ray comes with the quad version with the WUXGA screen.. The other GT729 version with the dual core does not come with a blu-ray player.

It's really written blue-ray on the wsxga+ page too... i confirm...

EDIT: I confirmed from what I remembered from the last time i checked(which really surprised me to see the blue-ray reader at this price) but now I've just been on the website, ans it has changed... it is now in option... but if that's what's written in your order, that's what you should get...

The U.S. release is mid-September now?! I'm really pissed off now, as I ordered that 725 back in early July when it started being discontinued and this guy is holding my money and putting it towards this, but mid-September is really too far.
