hello. while i'm still busy trying to solve why my new notebook has standyby and hibernate problems, a new issue has arisen.

at first i only used my notebook at home, now that i'm more comfortable with it, i've started to venture out into the big bad world with it in my backpack, with special notebook slot.

immediately my laptop started booting up on its own! at first, i thought it might be because of my previously mentioned standby problems. then, i started to hibernate the machine, STILL it would come out of hibernation on its own. so okay, i'm fed up, so i SHUT DOWN the machine. then it STILL boots up on its own!!!!!!

now, if i leave the notebook flat, at home, no problem, it never boots up. but when i slide it into my backpack and start walking around, then suddenly it boots up on its own! even when in OFF OFF OFF mode. anybody know what's going on here?? it's really a waste of battery power and electricity, and makes my back extra hot and sweaty, and is just stupid too.

there's no power button except under the LCD, so how is this machine booting up on its own? because of angle? tilt? any ideas?

    cheers
    Nick

Ok, this is complicated but I might have solution. I am not sure what laptop you have but some have button that might be on the bottom or side of the notebook. It might be a small one that "resets" your computer incase it crashes or overloads. I am not sure so, if you sure there is no "reset" or "reboot" button/ switch then I have no idea!

the side that i normally put down to the bottom only has: the kensington lock, DVD drive, two USB ports!

i don't want to put the other side down because the other side contains the VENT! that's how i know i just open up my bag and put my hand in front of the vent, and 70% of the time it is running!

    any other ideas?

I have a similar problem at home with my desktop. If the mouse moves after shutdown the computer boots, I don't know why but this has been happening for months. In your case maybe if you disable the touchpad it will stop. Of course, what kind of solution is that really?

Well that one can be quite simple, look in the bios for "boot with mouse/keyboard" options (sorry I dont remember the exact term for it, *idiot*).

Years ago I had a comp that would do that. I was confused until I realized that there was a "boot on LAN" option in the BIOS. So look for something like that.

And also, look for a "Boot on mouse/keyboard" as suggested above.

Yeah theat's the first thing I did when it startyed happening, but there is no such option in my bios. I do however, believe that it has something to do with my KVM switch, because I don't remember this happening before I started using it. Who knows, it's not a big deal anyway since I've been leaving my desktop online downloading stuff for the last two months or so.
