Hi, I have a Clevo computer as you can see in my sig. I am planning on a new computer and I heard a lot of bad things about overheating and noise in the newest 2013 line of Clevo gaming rigs. The computer I have now is just tolerable in that regard, but I don't know if I could handle any more. I've been looking at MSI, as they seem to have a better bang for the buck than ASUS, and I can't stand Dell or Lenovo (for personal reasons).

I was wondering what kind of advantages and disadvantages an MSI computer had in comparison to Clevo. I hear the speakers are better but the keyboards are pretty shoddy. Is this true with the 2013 line of MSI gaming computers? Are they even out yet? I also tend to like more subdued looking laptops that Clevo offers; are there any MSI computers that are less flashy?

    Thanks!

Msi have steelseries backlit keyboards that are so.e of the best on the market. They offer the same screen options and have a brushed aluminium finish on their retail models.

The new cooling system belps improve idle noise and they offer super raid for lots of msata drives. As you said they have so.e of the best built in soeakers out there.

What bad things have you heard? The very latest [Haswell] models have not been available long enough for there to be much of a consensus on any design defects; are you referring to some of the Ivy Bridge units?

The speakers are pretty good, and so are the keyboards! The latest SteelSeries keyboards advertise no ghosting whatsoever, and they're pretty comfortable. Some new units are out already, like the GExx-20x models. They're a little more geared towards gamers with the aesthetics, in general, though.

Last 3 or so posts of http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/705573-next-gen-clevo-48.html

Are MSI computers considered quieter and cooler than Clevos? My Clevo is definitely a jet engine and a furnace. I can tolerate those issues, I just would rather not have to.

My only problem with MSI is that they are a $100+ more expensive than their equivalent Clevo counterparts, which may or may not have to do with the included OS that I'd rather not have, but also includes things like using a GTX 765m instead of a 770m, which appears to be about 10-30% faster in all regards.

I've been interested in the MSI GX60-3AE-216US with the AMD processor and gfx but am quite concerned about the 2.5 lb weight difference and heat/battery deficits compared to the Haswell for equivalently priced models. How much of the weight is taken up by the battery in both Clevo and MSI computers?

Hi Prostar long time no talk. Regarding the new steelseries keyboard that will be coming out on these Haswell Clevo and these new MSI GE60/GE70 and GT series, are you sure they have no ghosting issues?

Do you remember when i asked you the same question last year regarding P150EM (NP9150) and the 2012 MSI GT/GE models about keyboard ghosting and you tested it for me with this link Microsoft Applied Sciences Group

Remember you told me some 3 combination does not work like Q+W+SPACEBAR and Q+W+D etcc.

Can you guarantee and verify that these newer 2013 steelseries keyboard that will be included on Haswell laptops will be ghosting free??

    Thanks and let us know

I remember reading that the new keyboards could do up to 6 or 7 simultaneous key presses without issues. Now, I don't even remember where I read that..... I should go look into it.

Anyways, MSI have steadily improved since years ago. They now have among the best cooling for single GPU, single fan, the best sound, solid stock screens, overall great build quality and are quite easy to open/clean/upgrade in general.

The Clevos have seemingly eliminated ghosting altogether from what I'm told on their keyboards. The SteelSeries keyboards on the MSI machines claim in later versions that their anti-ghosting prevents ghosting all around, but I'll have to test that. :)
