Hey guys, so I've just received my GX640-098US yesterday (yay!)

This is my first MSI notebook, my past computer history consists of only Dell and HP desktops.

I'm wondering if someone would be kind enough to direct me to, or list, the bloatware I should remove first.

Are there any immediate updates I need to install?

Any tweaks/etc (besides flex fix) that would benefit me?

Anything I should be wary about?

    Thanks!

well you probably want to get a touchpad protector, MSI touchpads are good enough but tend to wear quickly if not protected.

Make sure you have System Control Manager working right

Bloatware, depends what you want to keep on there. Definitely get rid of the Norton Antivirus (unless you use Norton)

You can update the VBIOS if you want, although the newer vbios is only in beta thus riskier than a normal vbios update is

I'm glad this post got started :)

Could anyone provide links (for easy access) to the video card and vbios updates? Maybe not the beta vbios yet though. I'll be receiving my 640 shortly too =D

I also feel like there was a list of the bloatware for this laptop somewhere, but I can't remember where, sorry.

Touchpad protector? What's that? I guess I could google.. but might as well consolidate information to this thread, as it can be helpful to many new owners.

    Thanks

Make sure to disable powerplay through the catalyst control center. Right click on your desktop, and choose advanced mode.

You can also repartition your hard drive.. I did because I found the data partition to just be annoying.. I reinstalled Windows fresh, with only 1 partition.

Its a piece of plastic or something, did you notice the glossy finish? Its not there for eternity. Two swipes and its gone. Its looks bad in the start, but once you're glued to the intense action on the screen you really wont care for the looks of the touchpad :p

Death, where is the link for personalized protectors?
