Hi guys iv just upgraded from the Dell xps m1730 and chosen to join the msi clan, so far I'm very impressed with my new msi monster. I chose to save myself £1500 and build my barebone myself with the parts I want without going through a shop that will pull my pants down.

So here is what I got for just over £1200.
    Msi ms 1762 gt70 barebone
Backlit keyboard, mouse pad and speakers
    Matt full hd led screen
    Nvidia 680m gtx gpu 4gb
    3720qm quad core ivy 3rd gen i7 2.6 boost 3.6 cpu
    Kingston hyper x 1600mhz 8gb ram
2x ocz octane sata 3 ssd 256gb hdd
    Killer lan
    Intel wireless and Bluetooth
    Windows 7 professional
    Mx-4 paste

Can I overclock anything if so which software with which settings?
    Thanks guys.

Iv added some images of the build below:

Eh, for that hardware, I'm not certain. I've steered clear from OCing. I think it's considered "stable" as long as you don't have any BSODS or crashes of any sort. You just need to make sure that you can supply enough power to the system.

Lots of people do it with little to no gripes/problems. Hopefully they give you their numbers and let you know what's considered "safe" by conventional overclocking standards.

In the meantime: Blog - What is a 100 percent stable overclock? | bit-tech.net

    First test your max temps.

Then you can install the modded BIOS for the GT70... loads of options.

A vBIOS is possible to install for the 680M although it'll definitely shorten its life-span (by a little, imagine the life span of 7 years turning into 5 or 4)

Intel XTU or ThrottleStop should help you OC your CPU :) due to you buying the 3720QM it gives you an extra 400MHz overclock :D enjoy

Hmmmm interesting, thank you for your knowledge wise one. I'll be applying this bios tonight. So where do I find the vbios and do you know of a safe stable oc?

I think you should take it step by step, and consider whether you actually need the vBIOS, before jumping into it.

    :p

Thats true ill stick with msiafterburner for when I need a boost. What about my cpu shal I take that from 2.6 up to 3.0ghz? Or is that to much strain on it?

You can try, but no, it wont put strain on it, check it out with Intel XTU and see what your temps are :)

The best tool is the unlocked bios files for the motherboard and GPU.

If you stick to low GPU voltages the stock adapter will cope.

Any GPU must support optimus to work in this machine since it is forced on by the hardware layout.

Any suggestions on which power supply to get and I want to do the modded bios's but I heard that it will block my laptop because it's the barebone.

I would have got the official one but I wanted a more powerful processor and a second ssd for my games. I know I could of changed it in the retail version but the laptop costs enough anyway never mind buyer better parts as well. The barebone is the same as the gt70 just no logo, multicolored keyboard or turbo button but let's be honest none of that is really to worry about.

Ok, yes it has worked so far, barebone to retail. However, if you flash it, you are on your own if something happens to the machine.

The asus 230W power supplies are the easiest to modify, always come with 2 connectors on the PCB and no 3rd data pin getting in the way.
