    HI,

I have an MSI GX600. this is my tenth month that i have this laptop. until now this was good, but now i have this problem.

this week my laptop begin to shut down because it was overheating. so i tought that it was the thermal paste so i changed it. but the problem is still there and now i don't know what is wrong.

the fan is working, the air vents and heat sink are clean.

does anyone know what is the problem, because for me doesn't make sense?

could be a failure inside of the GPU or CPU..what temp are these components at when it shuts down?

GPU about 90 degree and CPU about 80 degree, i don't k now for sure because this happens when i am playing a game.

when the computer is idle the tempretures are GPU 71 degree and CPU 62 degree

use hw moniter or everest to get your temps to see what they reach. dont use a laptop cooler or anything. also see if there is anything acting unstable.

it might be the cpu or gpu(not likely the cpu unless it has been abused very badly.) it could be the BSOD but it doesnt show quick enough for you to notice. it could be a software issue. what did you install or change before it stated to happen.

also try it in safemode. or it could be your mobo.

Use HWmonitor and have it log the events (which you are doing)

Isolate the GPU from the CPU for independent testing.

    Download this: (SuperPi Multi-Core version)

    http://www.bhtproject.org/library/BHT4x/index.php?dir=Utils/&download=p95v256.zip

Let it run for 30 minutes and measure your temps and see how your system is responding. It will pump up your CPU temps quite nicely.

Download this: (DX9 Real time GPU Stress Test 1.2)

    http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/#Download

and let it run for 10 minutes, full screen and see what your GPU temps are. This is the most brutal GPU stress test I've ever used.

Let us know which one caves in first. I suspect the GPU.

Send it back to MSI while it's still under warranty, let them deal with it.

Are you sure your fan is working? all your temps are pretty high, with your CPU temps way higher than they should be cooled.

Load up a game and play for a bit. Do you HEAR the fan speed up?

If your fan has bit it, you will need to replace the fan assembly or send it in for repairs for them to do it.

CPU and GPU are both is danger temps.... definitely overheating issues.
    - dust in vents
    - heatsink/pipes not properly secured
    - fans not working correctly
    - improper use of where to use the notebook
(should only on clean, hard, flat surfaces.... NEVER on beds, couch, laps)

Have an older version of this machine from Evesham the MS-16331 unit intel core duo gefoce go 7600

fan is working dust blown out, but the machine is shutting down during any use

running on a cooler has made it work better for a while but now its overheating on there too.

    any ideas?
the cooling system inside in my view shares one fan for both components, and just doesnt seem enough for the spec.

is this one of those design flaws where the components die slowly due to under cooling?

    Cheers for any advice guys

I have the same problem. I found whats the cause, but thats not what i wanted. I mean, i had nvidia 191.xx drivers, and the games worked properly, except there where bullet-time like slowings in every game after a while. Then i installed dox optimised drivers that i used BEFORE i got my GX600 repaired (fan replace!). Now with the new fan the pc is overheating, but the games run good. Ofcourse it eventually shuts down. :) Now i'm gonna send it once again to the shop to re[lace the fan because this is outrageous! The old fan that was releasing faulty noises worked very well, except for the noise, and the temp was always low, no matter how much i play on the comp, or leave it on, or put the highest settings. I just wanna say im pretty much unsatisfiyed!

lol I got a stronger middle finger from scrolling.

Seriously though, your temps are hot, but not near serious hardware failing temps. Have you contacted MSI???

In some cases NVIDIA released poor drivers, in other cases, from experience, you cant just blow the vent, the dust WONT come out, you have to rip the fan off and then you'l see what i mean.

The 100C you're getting for your CPU temps is the TJmax, when your CPU reaches 100C your notebook should shut down to protect the CPU.

Your CPU is overheating like crazy.
    Try the undervolting guide.

Are you sure the fan is working?

Because when I overclock my T7300 to 2.6ghz with 1.2625V it never goes above 85C.

Your CPU is way too hot, something is very wrong.
    I hope you have warrenty.

but yeah, you'd be smart to follow lambo's wise words.
