I got rid of my shiny spot by rubbing it with alcohol. Looks more like a buildup of oils than a rubbed down spot.

I hate the touchpad...but I hate all touchpads.

    Ditto...

And yes, that's oil build up, not worn plastic... :D

Regardless, on all my laptops I install a cheap PDA screen protector that I cut to fit onto the touchpad.

Very easy and cheap solution don't you think?

I you don't want to spend a dime on it, then take that sheet of thin protective screen that came with the laptop and cut to fit!... ;)

    Cheers!

Yeah im seing this shine too, after a month also :)

Good to know its not a worn pad (My vaio worn out very quickly, then eventually scratched down it worn off so much)

The idea with the screen protector sounds good Rayman, may try the same :).

    Ditto.

My touchpad I noticed had a big spot on it after a day or two of use when I forgot were I put my wacom. I just rubbed it with screen cleaner and boom it was just oil buildup. MSI is great, only problem is the notebooks are absolute fingerprint grease dirt, grit magnets. They love to make them selfs look dirty so we have to clean them and treat them like a god.

I was originally thinking of getting the gt725 until I saw the Asus k50AB. Guess this is another reason not to get it, since I game almost exclusively with a touchpad.

Actually, yes, most of my games are FPS's. I can't stand using a mouse, so I use a touch pad with the sensitivity turned up 3/4 of the way. :)

I'll take a quick Video of it, it isn't much different then with a mouse. The only difference is that you can't turn 180 degrees in one stroke, which can be annoying with some games.

I am also getting this shiny spot on my touchpad from 3 days of use. Is my touchpad worn this fast :S ? Or is it just an oil buildup?

Will I loose sensitivity if I use screen protector?

    Thanks

I hope its not from wearing out... try rubbing it out with some rubbing alcohol as mentioned above.

If the screen protector does decrease sensitivity, then you can just increase it with software to offset the difference. But I don't think it should be a problem. I have a screen protector on my iPhone and I don't feel a decrease in sensitivity between mine and my friends (no screen protector on his)

So can this thing worns in 3 days :| ?

That is disgusting. What did you do for it?

Why can't they provide a better quality touchpad? :(

I will try the screen protector thing. But I think it will become less smooth with the screen protector.

Guys is this problem also there with all the models or some specific?
I am about to get my GT725 and I use the touch pad a lot so can somebody explain whether it is oil buildup or wearing out?

    Plz give some precautions too.

    Thanks

it is not oil buildup its wear and i dont use it very much. i have a large shiny square now instead of just a circle from sliding my finger. and a line down the scroll side. this is NOT buildup not sure how many times i need to say that. i have 3 msi notebooks and all of them are like this now. 1 is worse than the other two because i hardly use the touchpad on those but they are showing a small bit of gloss now in the middle.

and do not use alcohol that is to strong i know a freind of mine who tried that after reading this thread to clean his he used a 90% one from wal mart and it actually turned the rag black from wiping it off so the dye or paint started to come off now he has zig zags on it that are shiny and the rest is flat. im going to try to take his apart and polish the whole thing to make it all glossy with a small bit of plastic polish or wax now. if it works ill do the same to mine just make the whole thing glossy then it doesnt matter lol

Odd that if this is a recurring problem on all their notebooks that it hasn't appeared in widespread until now seeing as the GT627 and GT725 are re0using the same chassis as the previous generation >.>

Oh well, I was never much of a trackpad user anyways lol :p Mind you, I complained that my keyboard keys got glossy after 2 weeks >_<

I used windex on mine I had a line from the scroll but the windex took it off, It does leave wear marks cuz I can still see it alittle bit so now I just disabled the track pad and use a wireless mouse.. Thats very dissappointing that there made so cheaply..

I prefer the glossy, I assumed they were supposed to wear and become easier the slide on. The matte finish it comes with is awful at first use, your fingertip catches, jumps and produces extra clicks all over the place.

That said, the best pad I've used was on an old HP, a complete piece of junk in all respects save the touchpad. So I guess better to have a great msi w/ a ty pad?

btw, has anyone seen the tiny, handheld track balls that available? Much more preferable than the annoying snack size mice imo. Might solve the input dilemma for some. (No mousing surface needed)

    @D. Martinez

Are you talking about the msi touchpad or you are speaking in general?

It does not seem that you have an MSI from your signature.

    @Zfactor

    So how is it now?

Do your finger slides easily? Or it becomes a pain in sliding?

Because I played ones with an HP touchpad which was very glossy and it was a pain sliding my fingers on it.

I think I will do it with mine. I hate how it looks when it is worn. It looks cheapo ;) .

My touchpad is worn too. I originally thought it happened when I put my 1722 together. I thought maybe I had some Artic Silver on my fingers because I couldn't think of any other reason for it to show wear in just few days.

I use a mouse when I can, but It's not convenient all the time.

I also find that where it's worn my finger doesn't glide over it smoothly, much more resistance. I thought about cutting a screen protector, but I would need one that glides nicely.

Nice laptop but the touch pad coating is the worst I have ever seen on any laptop, and I have had a number of laptops over the years.

I would love to find a quality, compatible replacement part and just replace the existing piece of crap pad.

I was gonna use a screen protector, but didnt want to buy one as im a bit poor right now. I cut out a square from the plastic that comes on the back of the lid. For the first day it didn't work great, but after using it for a little bit it is sticking well and feels great. It is silky smooth and didn't make it any less responsive. It doesn't look great, but that isn't near as important as the way it feels.

This is exactly what I experienced with my touchpad. Now I am not using it till someone brings us a solution to this.

This thing is the most annoying thing in this laptop. Right now my only cons in this laptop is the touchpad.
