anyone who has had one or knows someone who has one or has heard about anything please elaborate. are MSI laptops durable?
i dont mean like toughbook durable. i'm not going deep sea diving with my laptop or anything. i want to buy something that wont break just from normal use. typing, opening and closing, getting dusty, getting bumped every so often. you get the idea.

i'm considering the MS-1036 against the acer ferrari 4006WLMi.

so far they seem pretty decent in durability. the 510c has been around for quite a while and there hasn't been anything like hinge-wear or basic use problems.

but it's true, they don't have a long history in the US.

i had an msi geforce4 and the screw-hole didnt line up with the one on the case, it caused some problems at times. this is why i'm skeptical about msi.

I have had numerous msi desktop products, and never had any problems with them. I am now waiting on the msi MS-1037 with the new duo core and updated graphics core.

They feel more durable then many other manufacturers . If they are , well i wouldn't know but if they feel ok , most of the time they are . All laptops are on the inside more or less the same with more or less same manufacturers . I mean , the inside is with all brands the same , most of the time they break down because the outside isn't protecting it enough . When you pick a MSI notebook and with open screen try to bend it ( put your thumbs on the corners and push them different ways ) there is no bending at all . Not many notebook brands i found this with , so IMO they seem very good and durable .

MSI enjoys good reputation in the far east and as trustworthy as any Taiwanese laptops with a relatively lower price here in North America. Very good value at this early promotion stage.

yeah, i'll say... the price is whats drawing me in. also makes me think they may be flimsy, you know the old saying "you get what you pay for" but from what you guys have said it seems like this is the exception to the rule.

Well in terms of build quality I can tell you now it is very high, better than anything the mainstream offers except for Apple. I would give it third place after Asus and Apple.

well.. thank you guys alot.. i'm leaning more towards an ms-1036 now.. which has a much faster hd and a bigger monitor for like $300 less then the ferrari which is what i was going to get.
