scroll down on that page to find the specs for my GX740.
it has better specs than my friends older PC desktop but how come his desktop runs games better? the graphics look better, is it just he has a better LED monitor? i know this notebook does not have a great monitor. my notebook tells me that my monitor is a AUO6387 and is a generic PnP monitor. i was actually wondering if it's possible to put a brandnew better display on this thing? i have no clue if that is possible though, or what display would work better.
so why does his older desktop make games look better? do desktops just generally function better or something?
i'm just a little disappointed since his computer is using an older duo core processor and i'm almost positive the video card is not as good--he built his pc i think 2 years ago.
i mean, i don't know that much about computers, but this GX740 was suppose to be able to play Battlefield 3 on high settings but I'm only playing Vindictus (free mmorpg) and the graphics don't even look right compared to my friend's old desktop. just confused and a bit disappointed. i'll post his specs when i can find them.

here is a sample of what it looks like running Vindictus. hopefully i'm not just being paranoid and suffering from buyer's remorse, but my friend's desktop looks superior-- i'll post a Screen shot from his machine when im over there. -
The display on that laptop isn't of the best resolution. I'm willing to bet your friend has at least 1680*1050 or may even a fullHD 1080p screen. Just because your laptop may be better spec'd, doesn't mean it will magically make your lower resolution display better. If you have the money, I recommend you go buy a nice 1080p monitor and hook it up to your laptop. Load up BF3 and I bet you'll be able to show your friends desktop up.
Also don't start 2 topics for basically the same questions. -
hmm...i've asked this around a few times never really got a response. is there a way to replace/improve/upgrade the display attached to my laptop or is a bulky external monitor the only way. i mean if imma use an external monitor might as well have bought a desktop.
-
Well you should have looked at the resolution before you bought the laptop. And if you did t need any portability out of your pc youre right you can get a better pc and cheaper with a desktop.
I am not sure about changing the screen on your laptop. I think there is a version of your laptop that has 1050 but I'm not for sure. Then you'd have to find a compatible screen and lastly your cables may not support a higher res screen. Go ask on the MSI forums. -

The good news is that the cable will be dual LVDS already, now assuming the inverter is up to the task replacing it with a 1680x1050 display should be possible.
-
You should be able to change the display to a 1680x1050 as that's the same
display that my gx740 come with. I know that some places here in Europe was selling it with the 1440x900 display -
thanks for the tips. i'll look for the 1680x1050. do you know if it's a noticable difference? i bought this laptop online from ebay so not sure who to go to if i want upgrade the display. any idea? i've been talking to msi customer service but they are not very helpful.

i really wish i knew more about computers/electronics...
can a notebook like mine be hooked up to an HD notebook like this one Newegg.com - Hanns_G HL227DBB 21.5" LED monitor 5ms Full HD 250 cd/m2 X-Contrast 15,000,000:1
this here is my notebook http://www.ebay.com/itm/260885077508?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649&afsrc=1
and it does say HDMI connector (up to 1080p) supported but i don't see the slot where the HDMI chord would go in. also, i don't have a users manual sadly. -

You can hook up your notebook to any monitor with an HDMI input (as yours has an HDMI output).
Since you are really on the basics then replacing the screen is a big job. Buying a monitor and hooking that up is really, REALLY easy.
Of course it wont go with the machine it's stuck where it's plugged in. -
is ur game resolution set to the native resolution?
-
um whats a native resolution? mine is set to max 1440x900
-
and if that's not possible, i'm also thinking about optimizing my dispaly with an external monitor. anyone know if a perfect mid size monitor that goes well with my gx740? anywhere from 19-24 inch. looking for 1080p HD. and led is better than lcd right? i just want nice contrast, popp'n colors. -
currently im screwing around in the Catalyst Control Center of my ati 5870. anyone know some good tweeking tips? is it safe to turn on AMD Overdrive? i have no clue what it does, but heard it can be very useful.
