Hey guys, i currently own an alienware m14x. But i feel that the msi 683dxr is a much better buy with the 570m GTX , i was wondering if anyone can tell me how portable it is, how long is the battery life, and if there is a backlit keyboard and general review of the laptop. thanks guys

the gt683dxr is quiete portable. the battery life has lasted me over 3 ours using autocad and over 2 hours viewing movies. no backlit keyboard. i admit alienware keyboard is way better.

You cant game while on battery since there wont be enough power from the battery. Also it will burn out your battery fairly quick. Its intended for surfing web, watching movies. Wanna play ganes? Plug in the cord.

When it's plugged in, the performance is pretty good. It's not 50+ fps on high settings good, but it doesn't even need an OC to play SC2 on all high settings. Also, it plays Dirt 3 very well on high settings.

570m will crush the 555m on the m14x. plays crysis dx9 ultra 1080 with just a slight overclock @ 35+ fps, i believe 555m cant even do this at 720p

yeah thats why im thinking of making the jump to this laptop from the m14x, because they are the same price almost.. the only thing stopping me is the question of battery life and portability, the lack of a lighted keyboard and the question of how solid the buiild is, hows the quality of materials used? creaks cracks scratches ect.

like any other manufacturer they do some cutting corners! but if we're talking about G series of MSI laptop here, they're not bad at all! my GT780DXR (MSI flagship) is all solid build except the the touch macros area which is flexible!

the good thing is, MSI is x10 more reliable than alienware! you don't hear the horror stories here as the Alienware section in NBR! I know every brand could face problems (and I hope non of us will see that day..amen), but the QC of alienware is just beyond expectations! many people received their systems with scratches, missing screws, clicking speakers, misaligned parts "mostly the battery loose" etc! I used to think it was luck until I saw many YT videos about their system issues! I knew that alienware CEO just doesn't give! at least MSI know what they're doing!
