wow no one can check this for me? id be buying one this minute i am myself not a fan of the recent matte displays though and wish this was glossy, whats odd is unless im reading their website wrong the regular gx620 comes with a glossy wsxga. on their site it says the gx620 is a glare type which usually refers to a glossy display and the 1651 says it has a non glare wsxga which would be matte. why would the regular one get glossy and this one matte. this may not be the case but that is what the web site states. imo it sucks. i would not mind a matte finish except they are almost always dimmer and duller and the glossy counterpart.

can someone please tell me the hardware id of the screen you can check in device manager if you were unsure how to. thanks in advance.

No one wants to answer your questions because you are asking opinionated questions, there is no definitely right or wrong answer. The whole confusion in whether the 1651 comes with a matte or glossy display is due to MSI's usual ability to improperly clarify their specifications. Anyhow, all WSXGA 1680x1050 display are matte screens. This one is manufactured by Samsung, and the model number is LTN154P4-L01. As for the glossy display, it is only available on lower end GX620/GX630, at a resolution of 1280x800. I cannot provide you the manufacturer or model number for this one, since only one or two people here has one.

If you still need some sort of feedback on the WSXGA, I find it to be very good. However I do prefer matte screens over glossy ones, because it can be used outdoors and the colors are more 'accurate' and not oversaturated. Brightness-wise, it's good enough for me, but of course nowhere as bright as the older Macbook Pro LED matte displays.

thank you for the info. i now have the full specs on the screen. and my question was not opinionated.. i was simply asking what screen the notebook had. then i stated my own opinion.... but the question was what screen is it.

that samsung is very dim imo. 185nits is not great and they usually have poor viewing angles from my experiences with this panel.. i have seen this panel and yes it comes in glossy as well as matte i have seen it with both. a freind of mine is a lcd vendor and i have seen more panels thank most will ever see. i have nearly a dozen brand new ones sitting here for various repairs for my customers..

sorry to rant but i did simply ask a question about what screen it was. the rest yes was my opinion.

but THANK YOU SO MUCH for your answer i do appreciate it, this being the panel it is i may look elsewhere as i am def not a fan of samsungs notebook panels..

Not all are matte I have a ms-1651 with the wsxga 1680-1050 screen and it is glossy. The hardware id for it is CMO1523 which apparently is a good panel, its made by chi mei in taiwan. The screen looks great with good brightness.

Z, after you are looking for a screen anyway, can you also look for a wusxga+ screene for MS-1722 ID2 - actually the one that comes with GT725. I want to buy one from somewhere.

Could you tell us the best LCD you found that's glossy and 1680x1050? Something that will get good brightness?

I assume that if it will fit in the 1650 it should also fit in the GT627?
    Thanks.

On the Part number of the WSXGA+ part number (N154Z1-L02) mentioned earlier, which revision? Does it matter which one?

no it doesnt matter on the chi mei because the extra brackets are screwed on those. so if it has extra brackets they come right off

yeah but note that seller states they are selling a compatible screen so you may not get the chi mei you might get whatever they send you that is "compatible"

Ok. Thanx. Also I just bought An Antec Notebook Cooler 200, A P9600 on Ebay (ES sample, I know, just testing for overclock and such with it) and I basically love my GX-620. My turbo even works in XP 64-bit for some reason. But I was playing GTA IV and (this was before I noticed the temps) my Cpu was at 91c MAX, now my fan rattles like crazy, I need a new fan, I know some people with the Wind put some oil in it and Voila, it's new again.(I don't know if it works in the GX series) But I haven't found any where to buy a new fan.(I haven't called Msi Yet, I don't even know if they have parts) Which brings me to my next question, Is there a faster fan out there (more cfm) and if/if not, where can I get one. Thanx.

Also about the LCD, do I need to replace the Data or Power cables If I upgrade to the 1680x1050 from my 1200x800. Thanx.

P.S. I haven't taken my fan out yet, does any one know the Manu. and part number before I go tearing apart my Lappy.

Sorry, 1 More question, where can I get a bios update, when I go to MSI Global, they don't have one.

    Thanx in advance.
And Thanx about the screen too.

lg is my pref personally. but of the samsung or the chi mei i have used and own both and the chimei is def a better screen, brighter and imo better viewing angles. both are very similar for color saturation. i really am pleased with the chi mei for what it is.. i personally dont like samsungs latest ccfl lower end panels myself.

it will work fine but may have a bottom bracket that needs to be gently pried off but its not really that hard. and yes its a very nice screen. you will also need to simply re-use the msi stock inverter but it will work fine with it

Hiya Z, I was reading this forum post because my laptop screen
listerally is cracked. I need to get another screen for my
MSI ms-1651, it originally came with the 1280x800 screen.
I can do the screen swap my self but can I purchase this:

    http://www.blisscomputers.net/msi-ms-1651-laptop-lcd-screen-15-4-wsxga-glossy.aspx

and have no problems? Should it be a straight swap? I want
the higher resolution, I am in a hurry so I'm trying not to
make a mistake as I dont have much money.

*also I think you referred this screen as well
    http://www.blisscomputers.net/lg-philips-lplf300-laptop-lcd-screen-15-4-wsxga-glossy.aspx

did you just simply remove the old and plug the new lg straight in?
