ok so i read cofeesharks review of the ms-1036 on notebookforums.com and it looks freakin awesome, but i don't need a lot of those features and i kinda wanted a 15 incher instead of a 17 incher. plus it's a bit more than my budget. so anyway i'm pretty set on getting the 1029 but i have a question. in the 1036 review it was mentioned that it had a REALLY good screen.
how does the 1029 compare?? is it just as good?
oh also... it looks like it's xp64 ready, but how would it handle linux? i've never been a linux fan but i may have to setup a dual-boot for school (IS major).

Its not brilliant but its better than alot of the screens on acers, It uses a ati GPU and ive heard they dont run with linux to well.
-
I'd disagree. The screen is beautiful, IMHO. You should consider that it is WXGA.
-
is the matte screen the only reason why it is not as "brilliant"?
or are there other factors involved that make it inferior to the 1036? -
The 1029 isn't a matte screen, it has the glossy ("anti-glare") screen of most of the MSI models.
You'll get various opinions on the screen. It's a good screen, plenty bright enough for most people. I don't think you'll be disappointed by it.

oh ok... i thought matte was what they meant when they said anti-glare... glossy is definitely a preference for me so im glad to know that the 1029 is glossy.

From what I hear it is great, other than the resolution.. But WXGA doesn't particularly have a bad resolution, just not great.
-
yeah i'd prefer wsxga, but wxga is good enough i suppose

I use my MS-1029 along with my Canon G3 to do tethered photography of products for work.
Basically using the laptop to control the camera and see a high-res display of the products to insure the focus is dead on, and record the images to a shared network drive so other people in my department can process them.
I often find myself wishing it had a regular non-glossy screen.
The screen is nice, but if you do any work where color is critical, you will find that the screen has a blue-ish haze, and the glossy screen is very reflective, although it's nice to look at, some times it make it a bit harder to judge details in photos and such.
