    hello i have a gtx 780 whith core i 5 i have buy a new processor core i 7 840 qm but i have a strange problem he wont start


    anybody have some info for me please thanks plexter :mad:

    Which laptop do you have? you have a GT780R??? because that ones have Sandy Bridge processors and the one you mention is a previos gen i7.... If thats the case, they are not compatible....

    the i7 840QM is a nehalem (or westmere) cpu, the GX780 and GT780 are only compatible with sandy bridge cpu's (AKA Core i7 2XXXQM)

    Yep. In less words, the intel i series CPUs are not backwards compatible.

    Anyway, you should be happy about this, because I think even the i7-920xm (not compatible) is slower than the 2630qm which can be found for around 100$.

    they are, on stock, basically on par with 2630qm. However, the 920xm, unlike all SB except 2920xm, can unlock all 4 cores for their max turbo boost, essentially curbstomping sandy bridge (except for the extreme editions, which can do it too).

    If you have a 920xm, there is no reason to go for sandy bridge.
