if i don't care about size (aka the 15" clevo 860)?
i've been following the new MSI gaming laptops for awhile now.
and i think it is safe to say for budget gaming, the 17" (074 i suppose, 075 seems a bit unnecessary if you don't care for bluray) is the way to go or does anyone want to contest that claim before i confirm the purchase i think i am going to make?

AARRRGGGHHH!
I was just finally coming to a decision between the ASUS G50VT and the Packard Bell ipower GX and now I've seen this which looks the best of the three! A touch more pricey but nice looking.
Thanks for this post, now back to not being able to decide over 3 machines instead of 2! -
You can add the Advent 6555 to your list if you want to complicate things further. Basically a re-labelled GT725 with a lower res screen and hardrive but cheaper (£999) and with a quad core processer.

In the same boat and almost went with the Gateway FX from Egghead but when I saw the 725 on the verizon (US), I waited and it seems it's definitely better than the Gateway in NOT just gaming power but also better in screen, speakers, build quality, and better cooling ....in other words, the 725 smokes the FX overall.
I'll probably be ordering the 725 (without BR) sometime early next week. -
Me too! I was going for the Toshiba x305-706, but then saw the 725......I will wait to hear reports on the sound system, etc....but it looks like it's great deal for the price!

I think he's confusing the speaker manufacturer with the sound card's chipset maker.

^ Whatever the case is, the 725 should STILL sound better than most laptops anyway (maybe not as good as the Tosh though). One of my buddies' has the Dell Studio 17 and if u really wanna hear how bad speakers sound on a laptop, that would be a classic example.

i think its just a matter of time before something else come out with a 4850 for a cheap price this right now is great though.
I can already see more 4800 series GPU coming out with other Asus notebooks we will have to wait and see -
hello,
i've been noticing a trend of complaints/issues regarding the gt725 lately.
there are sooo many conflicting reports about this laptop.
some people have been saying the video is choppy while gaming, etc.
someone else said ati doesn't provide support for older drivers so it is a risk getting the computer.
i've been seriously looking into getting this but should i be questioning this product now? do i need to wait for a less flawed new gaming laptop?
i envision doing the following on this laptop:
-playing wow,sc2,d3
-word processing
-multi-tasking on the internet
-playing music
all of this hopefully through wireless internet..
-not much else that i can think of..
given that, is this computer still the right choice for me? -
Your spine will thank you for that!!! -
The Gateway FX systems look like a better buy unless you want Blu-Ray. I did, which is why I went with the GT725 instead.
is the 725 the definitive budget gaming laptop?
