hi so I am think of getting a gt70 more specifically a GT70 0NC-008US for collage but I have a few questions

how noisy is the fan?, does it run loud when the integrated graphics chipset is in use ?

how reliable is nvidia optimus ? are there any issues with it and older games ?

I am also somewhat hesitant about the weight although I personally dont care about something weighing 14.5 pounds I am concerned about biking to school with it on my back, I live about 2 miles fron my collage and tend to bike there with about 25 on my back, how practical would that be if I biked with a msi gt70 in my backpack with other book

if anybody could answer these questions that would be great, I really want to get this laptop, I have done a ton of research and it just boils down to these few issues.

    thanks

I was also considering the GT70 as a laptop for my MBA program and for occasional air travel for business. I ended up getting the GT60 instead, because I figured the extra weight and bulk of the GT70 would make me hesitant to open it up and actually use it in some situations.

The fan noise of the GT60 (and presumably also the GT70) isn't a problem and it's a good laptop for school use with ONE BIG EXCEPTION: if you get a unit with one of the "bad" keyboards you will be cursing your decision. The return/exchange policy of the store where you buy your laptop is of critical importance, because - depending on whether this bug has been ironed out in the latest batches shipping from MSI - you might need to go through a few units.

    Same situation here, I suggest a GT60.

hmm I actually did not have problems with an asus g73 fitting in my backpack ( borrowed it from a friend awesome guy has two of them ) and I don't consider 1 pound to make a significant difference I could be wrong.

actually I have just gotten so use to the screen size of the g73 that the though of going back down to a labtop smaller then the screen of the g73 that I am borrowing kinda bothers me.

random note GSOD are really annoying

GSODs are exclusive to the G73JH and are easily fixed by updating the vBIOS.

I used my 3.3kg notebook when I studied at university earlier. I see that the GT70 is 3.9kg so personally its a bit too much maybe since I thought that 3.3 kg was "enough", so maybe you should aim for GT60 which is 3.5kg :)
