I am just wondering if that CPU will be good enough to run games in the future with upgraded GPUs since Msi has guaranteed upgradeability or should I spend more money now and get a better CPU, I think like 700$ more for the next model up with the 4980.

I think the CPU will last a good while still. It may not be the highest performing but it shouldn't affect you negatively to the point you can't game.

Consider that people, due to different budgets, still game on considerable lower end hardware, to this day.

Personally, I don't think you should spend 700dlrs more for the 4980. It might help slightly but in the end, if you can play something with the 4980, you can play with a 4710.

CPU's make very little noticeable difference in actual gaming now. Even the i7-4710 are very capable. Just be sure to get a GT72 version with 980M instead of 970M as you will see a difference there.

I'm sure the highest end card in a generation and a bit would be a little faster with a higher end CPU but it's not going to be a huge difference.

Well for 900$ more I'd get ips panel the 4980 and extra 256gig ssd! You guys think save the money?

1: I don't think it will matter with DX12, since it removes a lot of the overhead of the primary core.

2: So many games are tied to consoles with weak x86 based processors that it shouldn't become an issue. Ubisoft equates a maxed out conole to a i5 2500k. Even if you can optimize better later on, since it is x86, x86 for PC should get the same optimization.

3: The gaming performance improvements are ~5% on each generation from Sandy Bridge to Broadwell. That is a giant user base to target.

I don't think you need to be concerned about the CPU until the consoles get replaced again.

The cpus in the consoles won't even come close to a 2500k though they can optimise the difference would still be there.
