The Cinema Pro II program from MSI's website doesn't work. It'll install, but it won't open. It shows up in the directory where it's supposed to, and it also shows up under "uninstall program" in control panel. There is no start menu, quicklaunch, or desktop icon, and when I click on the .exe nothing happens.

I've also tried VLC, but it gives me some weird error when I try to open a blu ray disc. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions to get blu ray playback going?

Also, I've read that some people have had success getting THX to work on their barebones, but I'm not one of them. Any good tutorial or how-to for this?

I have the setup in my signature.

    Thanks in advance.

On the GT780DX I have a button on the Touch Control Bar that turns on the Cinema Pro II.

On the Force 16-F2 I have a triangular shaped power button, a button that turns the webcam on/off to the right of it, and a button with a windows logo on it. I'm not entirely sure what that key does, but it doesn't toggle Cinema Pro II. When I click on the applications in the folder (Cinema ProII controller and Cinema ProII) the processes start and show up in task manager, but the actual application never loads.

On the Touch Control Bar to the left of the triangular Power On button there should be a button on the left of the Turbo Fan button for the Cinema Pro II.

Here is my bar....very different from the MSI branded one. The two buttons on the left do absolutely nothing. Just place holders with no function built in underneath.

Ah Ha,the picture I posted was from the 1st page of the Bareboner's Owners Lounge.

    I didn't realize there's a different Control Bar.

Your pic is the 1761. The bar is apparently very different between the 1761 and 16-F2.

The more time goes by the more I wish I would've gotten the 1761. It seems "less" barebones than the 16-F2.

blu-ray playback (i believe) will require a purchased dedicated bluray player software. It does not come with the computer despite having purchased a bluray player optical drive. Someone correct me if I am wrong because I would love to find a way to play them for free myself as I am in the same boat as you lilysdad.

As for cinema button it just launches your media player - not really that big of a deal. For me it launched windows media player.

Have you tried the free MSI WinDVD 10 player.

    MSI Global ? Download Center

After it's installed there may be cheap offers to upgrade to v11.

That also doesn't open for me when I click on it. I tried to install the windvd program from the MSI website and it told me I didn't have an MSI computer so i couldn't use that version of the program.

I was told by xoticpc that they install cinema pro ii on the 16-f2 for blu ray playback.

Whenever I try to use VLC for blu ray playback I get this error:

    Blu-Ray error:
This Blu-Ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it.
    Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'. Check the log for details.

Any idea what that means and how to fix it?

No good for Barebones, only branded MSI! I had to purchase WinDVD Pro 11.

If you have the barebone version MS-16F2 the branded BD software will not install and is locked out for the barbone models.

Did you purchase a BD drive bundled with your notebook? If so it should have come with BD OEM software, If it did not contact your reseller. Cimema Pro is only audio/video enhancement software.

when launching cinema pro, there is no actual App that loads but rather a change in brightness and contrast calibrated especifically for better playback in any kind of videos, including games and bluray.

now, in order for ANY msi UI application to work u need to download system control manager. that should do tha trick.

for bluray playback i suggest u get windvd11 since it brings its own coded library and once u install it ur good to go with any blu ray player.

Also the Cinema Pro II will not function with the barebone 16F2 as there is no softkey to launch it on the barebone.

Is it the same situation with THX? Because I can get it to install, but it says no device found or something along those lines.

Correct, THX is for the branded models and not the barebone.

WinDVD works so I'll probably end up going with it.
