im tempted by the great pricing they offer.. are there any major issues, any thing i should know ahead of time to get or not get ... honestly i know only of msi motherboards i know nothing about their notebooks.. they look nice and it seems you get a lot for the money but i dont want something that will fall apart on me within a year or two.. thanks .. id prefer a 17" but may settle for a 15.4 depending on the config and price.. id like to stay at or under 1500$ and i see i can do that with a msi or a re-branded msi with everything i want even less through some places such as cyberpower etc but i question their overall reliability... thanks in advance.. if i get something like this it will simply allow me to cancel my dell order altogether and prob be much happier in the long run..

Its my first notebook and have never owned any MSI branded hardware. I do have seen other people with MSI mainboards, videcards, etc and it looks like a quality brand.

For a 17 inch notebook, its quite mobile. But I dont know if you will be carrying yours everyday from class to class.

I have to say the Vostro 1700 does beat it with 5 to 3 usb ports.
With an external hdisk, my mouse and very often a usb memstick its a tight fit.

But i like the MSI dimensions more:
    MS-1719: 15.59" (W) x 10.94" (D) x 1.304~1.38" (H)
    Vostro1700: Width: 15.5" (39.4cm), Height: 1.7" (4.4cm), Depth: 11.5" (29.3cm)

Up till now Im happy with my purchase :)

    Edit: woops, I have a MS-1719 :D

My MS-1719 is at least as well built as my last laptop, a Dell Inspiron 8500. In fact, it seems sturdier. The Dell developed a couple of cracks in the case after a couple of years. I don't think this one would have the same problem.

The only things I don't like much are the keyboard (kind of tight, with a really small right-shift key, takes some getting used to), and the right palm rest gets pretty hot. Oh, and placement of the input/output jacks could be better (I'd prefer them at the rear of the laptop, but I know a lot of people like to have them more accessible).

yeah i see the jacks on the front thats one of the only things i dont like about these.. kind of ugly if they were maybe black instead of the normal green/pink they may look better but they stick out like a sore thumb
