hello guys, i was wondering if you guys can help me out on my ram.

windows system control panel shows that i have 7.98 gb of ram.

if i remember correctly shouldnt it show 8gb?

i tried to diagnose the problem so i used 1 ram card and tested out each of the slots

one 4gb ram card on slot #1 windows shows 4gb

the same 4gb card on slot #2 windows shows 3.92gb

!?!?! is that normal? what does your control panel says for your ram? does it have decimal places?

    thanks.

wow thanks for clearing my fears woot. i was really worried. but i still wonder why that happens and only on slot number 2. maybe it processes ram differently or has a different configuration which affects how ram shows up.

    thanks again TalonUIUC

This is normal with everything that transforms MB in GB. You cannot see everywhere the exact number you have bought.
In your case, the 8 Gigs its not strange to show a number veeeery close to 8 G. Remember that 1 Gig has 10 24 MB not 1000 exactly and this creates differences in RAM and Drive space. It exactly the same with HDDs - you buy 250 Gigs you get ~244,14 Gigs

I only thought about that in hard drives haha. anyways the problem is different it displays different amounts depending on which ram slot i place the memory in. with one 4 gig stick it displays "4gb" in slot 1 but "3.92gb" if placed in slot 2.
