hey guys im new to the forums :) i recently decided to sell my gaming desktop because i dont play games much anymore and want to purchase a laptop that can somewhat game.

the gx640 is the most appealing thing so far (price/performance wise) but i was wondering whats a good online vendor to buy from if you are from canada. do you get charged custom fee/taxes when purchasing from us vendors?

thanks in advanced for the help i appreciate your inputs.

ncix for ontario, pccanada for anyone not in ontario I think (avoid almost $100 in PST).

You get charged the full GST+PST+HST (where applicable) if you buy from the states, it's really annoying. No customs fees on tech, though

The 3 best priced places I've seen are Greytech.com, NCIX.com, and PCCanada.com. Greytech tends to be cheapest (shipping incl), but their site is a bit harder to get around.

I was pricing one out, and Gentech (even though a US seller) seemed to be the best if you wanted to customize the hardware a little. I put in 6gb of RAM and changed the proc. and it was cheaper than xotic. With the dollar at par, I don't think going to a US reseller would be a bad idea.

Otherwise I recommend NCIX.com very highly. I bought my G73JH from there, ordered it on a Thursday and had I been home it would have been delivered the following Monday (instead I had to pick it up on Tuesday). I live in Alberta, so it was sent from BC. They also pricematch if you find a cheaper price.

I live in Ontario and chose Gentech because i wanted it upgraded. Import duties are equal to the taxes you pay here anyways so you just need to worry about shipping

Another Canadian here and I just pulled the trigger on one of these bad boys too although I ordered mine from www.provantage.com. Yes it is a US company but they still offer their standard 30-day return policy to international buyers on this laptop which makes me feel better about buying a laptop sight unseen.

@Paulzors : When you receive it, could you post how much it did cost you with duty - shipping - taxes ?
    Thx

I am also looking at picking up the GX640 and pccanada has it for $1197 after all taxes have been applied (no PST in BC). Which is about $150 than NCIX than NCIX (before price match).
