My new gx640 just arrived today.. so i set it up for the first time, and updated the catalyst to 10.5 and turned off Powerplay. I installed SC2 and set everything to ultra and started playing. After like 30mins I got artifacts all over my screen. So I quit the game and shut it down, thinking my GPU is overheating. After 10mins, I powered it up and still got artifacts on my desktop! I switched off the laptop again, and im scared to switch it back on. I dont know what to do.
This is my first gaming laptop (was a mac user before buying this laptop so I dont know my way around). Any advice?
edit: off to bed and hope everything works in the morning

It's possible you got a faulty graphics card, maybe get it repaired under warranty?
-
Yeah, best thing to do is to return it asap !
-
Yeah return it buddy, its not worth the hassle, probably poorly placed pads or just a bad card.
-
thanks for the advice, will return it
edit: update: While waiting for my RMA instructions from pccanada, i did a full OS recovery. Still had artifacts all over. Ill be requesting for a refund since they dont have any stock left to immediately replace my unit -
edit: nevermind figured it out

That sucks. You should use the refunded money to re-purchase from NCIX and use their PM system to your advantage. They've got a great express coverage plan that includes free next day shipping.
In the eventuality of any defect, they'll send you a Purolator account number so you can send back your laptop at no cost whatsoever. Of course, I'd be extremely surprised if you ended up with another lemon, that'd be some bad luck. -
Just about to post the laptop back. I wanted to buy from NCIX but they were out of stock that time. I see they have it in stock now, might just buy from them. And one of their retail stores is just a 10min drive from where I am

I'm scared :*( .......I hope I don't run into any problems its coming in tomorrow.

Maybe its good to do what I did when you get yours. Before doing anything with the laptop, update the drivers and game on it. Hopefully this will bring out any defects the gpu may have.. And you dont waste time in transferring data only to find out you have a defective one. Nevertheless, I hope you guys enjoy your new notebooks when they arrive! Have to wait for my refund before I can buy a new one

Other than that small detail, the thing is rock solid.
