good day! im planning to upgrade the processor of my laptop. it lags quite horribly with 2-3 guests in vmware together with google chrome with 5-10 tabs opened, ms word 2007, and windows media player running. will i see noticeable difference from p8400 to t9600 and will it be enough to run maybe 5 guests with the other programs mentioned above running?

i also have 4 gb of ram but i think they're not causing the lagging since i still got around 1.4 to 1.2 gb available with all of them running according to the task manager but ill upgrade them to 8gb later on.

    thanks in advance!

Well, see it and compare it yourself, You might see a slight difference since your current cpu is ranked 108th and t9600 is 47th. But it will not be a HUGE difference i say its 25%.

If you want nice multitaking, go for quad Q9100, but beware that Qseries CPUs have low frequency -2,2GHz roughly, witch may be result of lower fps in games than t9600 (not in all cases becouse most NEW games benefits from multi cores). Q for multitask, and T for programs and games witch demand more MHz.

I would go for Qseries i think, but see if is supported in your laptop first, you may upgrade your bios first.

TDP of Q9100 migh be high, but since this laptop is available with Q9000 as an option, so should't be a prob.

The Q9200 is the way to go, forget dual cores for the kind of tasks you want

Important for everyone to know that not all gt627 support the quads with SATA.

    All the gt628 do.

The gt627 MUST have 2 or 3 extra 'cpu chokes' or something like that, if you start to look at you motherboard you'll see.

You can do a LOT of FSB overclocking on this laptop... Might want to see if you are happy with the p8400 at 3ghz.

Q9200 is the perfect I think. Mine is stable at 2.8GHz, Thanks to Nitro. But in such a warm weather I need something to cool down this beast.

i inquired about the t9600 as its the only processor available locally here that is compatible with gt628. i guess ill go with the quad then but it will cost an arm and a leg to get.. :( with regards to overclocking, i dont think ill try ocing this as room temps here in my house goes around 35-36 deg c. anyway many thanks for the info guys.

Can I somehow undervolt the cpu to lower the temps? Yesterday it was hitting 91*c in DiRT3 on [email protected] (which is the stock on the Qx9300)

edit: now its CS:S stable [email protected]...

    Yup use throttlestop

Dude, you can also overclock it just like a qx9300, it has unlocked multipliers. no need for FSB overclocking

what's the lowest VID for the QX9300 clocks? I can use it at 2.26GHz with 1.05V and there's a pretty sweet 20*C tempdrop.

and of course ThrottleStop FTW! :D

Stability is probably determined by infinite factors including the atmospheric pressure at the time the chip was manufactured, unless of course that is regulated.

1.05v is the lowest it can go, without hardmods, period. I doubt you want to try under 1.1v at 2.5 or 2.4.

on [email protected] is stable. i just want to get the 2.53GHz az low voltage as possible, because my notebook cooler is dying... if i can't go <=1.1V i will use it at Q9100 clocks...

Well, you could start buying and reselling q9200 chips, then you will probably find one that runs at 2.53ghz stable with only 1.05v.
But the fact that yours runs at 2.26ghz and 1.05v is pretty lucky already, I don't know if mine can do that.

now i'm at [email protected] rock solid and runs gta4 flawlessly. at 1.05V give me a BSOD maybe 1.0625 or 1.075 will work but now i've got some work to do. so maybe later try to lover the vid...

edit: it crashed just now. after a few round in dirt3 its gave me a BSOD. not good...
