So far I reached this clock without any problems playing at all:
    Voltage: 1.05v
    Core Clock: 650mhz
    Shader Clock: 1625mhz
    Memory Clock: 800mhz

Running rthdribl_1_2 for 15mins and it reached only 74 C this hot sunny day.

I tried to increase my memory clock by 25 but upon entering windows 7, the screen shows many triangles around so I immediately close my laptop.

Can anyone here give me some tips on how can i overclock my memory?

OT: Do you think I can run starcraft 2 and diablo 3 on this laptop? (very OT really but I want to know)

Up the voltages. Why have you blanked the devID? It is the same for all 9600m GT.

    Really? LOL

Anyway, I somehow managed to increase my memory clock by 50mhz without increasing my voltage to 1.15? after updating my driver to 191.56.

I might increase my core and memory clock a little bit more maybe tomorrow if there are no problem occurs.

    Thanks for the help. :D

Be careful though since the memory modules don't have any thermal sensors.

That is correct, certian drivers wont let you overclock, I had the same issue when I had a 1722 with a 9600m GT.. Glad to see you got it overclocked.. Just monitor your temps..

Hey everyone! I have a problem. I installed COD4 and play it for almost 2 hours then suddenly my screen goes black with a duuuuuuu sound. something like that.

I recorded my temp using gpuz and see that it is running below 80 degrees.

I'm guessing that it is my gpu memory.... Anyone here can help me?

EDIT: Setting back the memory clock to default didn't work.

    EDIT:

I tried to put it on a table instead on my bed because I noticed it builds up heat. Now I didn't experienced any problem. It brings down my temp to 72 from 80 C. Cool.

Anyone here knows who is the culprit on black screen? GPU? CPU? I still don't have any idea why it acts like that.

The black screen with the sound loop is GPU related. I don't know why but for some reason the driver is not able to recover the card.

Did I burn something up? hahaha

so what's the reason it happened? Is it too much heat? But I only reach 80C? Does my voltage pretty low for my frequency? (1.05v/650mhz/1625mhz/800mhz).

I'll try to play again and see if it crash again.

EDIT: It crash again. It sits 76 C for 10 mins then it crash. WTH is happening? It only crash when I play COD4? I'll try to return it to factory default then see if it will crash again. -_-

EDIT: I tried to lower the core to 625 and shader to 1550 memory 800, now there are no crash happening. Does my gpu reached its limit?

Well it might be the driver that's causing the problem, mine is running fine with OC settings. COD4/6 are both running smooth.

I tried 186, 191, and 195 beta but still it goes to black screen.

Did you update your cod4? I'm just playing the single player though.

It crashed sometimes at 76C, 78C, 80C.. Weird but those temp is definitely fine.

i tried running atitool for an hour.. no crash..

    COD4... 10 mins... crashed.... :(

COD 5 used to black screen my ati all the time too, i dont know what fixed it in the end, prehaps a full driver wipe, even the MSI released ones instead of nvidia official?

Prehaps ripping the CMOS battery for half an hour?

But if ATI tool works fine then it cant be hardware, try deleting all cod profiles?

I sorted out the problem. My core clock is not stable. ATItool maybe didn't crashed on my 1hr test but in 3dmark06, it crashed in 20mins. Weird thing is that only in cod4 crashed.

    Now my clock is here.
    Core clock: 550mhz
    Shader clock: 1550mhz
    Memory Clock: 900mhz

Now my problem is. What's the problem? My temperature is fine running at 75C when my core clock is at 600mhz then it crashed. I'm guessing it's the power not giving enough. Someone here said that 1.05v is fine when running below 650mhz. Is it the adapter? Does the adapter has a maximum power it gives?

The 9600m is not getting anywhere near the maximum amount the laptop can provide to a gpu. Get your memory clocks back to stock. You only get a minimal increase of performance by overclocking the ram and it's more stable a stock clocks. Just overclock the core and shaders more if you are not satisfied with your current performance. And keep the 1:2.5 ration for the core, shader clocks ratio.

Shader clock is stable but I can't increase my core clock anymore. So what should I do?

    @ dark666
Your problem is caused because you don't keep the 2.5 ration between core and shader clock. So if you want to run your card @ 550MHz core you should have 550*2.5=1375MHz Shader Clock. There is no need to increase the voltage at all, just keep that ratio.
Mine is running @ default voltage and is running perfect. See the GPU link @ my signature. The the picture shows that my memory runs @ 900MHz, but it crashes after 40 min of play (due to lack of good cooling of the chips). So I had to revert it back to 850MHz (as it is written) and now is OK.
The card is very OC-able so you can achieve core clocks even more than 700MHz, but the temperature is very high. I have set lower shut down temperature in video BIOS, originally is 105 degrees and I lower mine to 95. With these settings I was capable to run my card @ 670MHz for few minutes before it shut down. :) Good luck. If you have any questions, you know what to do. :D

Woah. You didn't understand what I've said.

First, my clock is 625/1550/800.. It runs fine on some games except COD4. ATITool runs for an hour without any problem. Weird.. So I installed 3dmark06 and run it.. Boom.. It crashed in batch test..

Then I try to run everything at default except on my shader first and use 3DMark for an hour... No crash..

Maybe it's the core? So I do it again except for the core. Run 3D mark... crashed in batch test.

So, I tried to look for my stable clock. I increase my core clock first then shader after till they reached their maximum clock.. I reached 575mhz core clock(580 black screen), 1550mhz shader(1600 black screen).

I dunno if unlinking the core and shader clock would cause any trouble because my clock is stable running 3dmark for 5 hours. (550mhz core and 1550mhz shader)

The weird thing is, why black screen? Isn't it should be some white dots or maybe weird triangles around the screen or stuttering. :|

I have some questions about my 9800M GS, but I don't wanna make a new thread.

I over clocked my GPU using NiBiTor 5.2 and nviflash. The result is pretty good. I can reach the speed of 600/1500/800 very stably w/ 1.05V (the default voltage is 1.06). But I can not go to 610/1525/800 even when I adjust the voltage to 1.09 V

I used NiBiTor to edit the GPU name to 9800M GTS or 160M GTS, but Windows and GPU-Z still reads 9800M GS.

Do you know which process was used to produced MSI GT627's GPU? 55 or 65 nm? NiBiTor reads "MSI_55nm" in my BIOS and notebookcheck.com says 9800M GS ver 1GB is produced w/ 55 nm technology. But GPUZ says 65 nm

Finally can I flash MSI GT628's GPU bios into mine?
