Check out XoticPc.com, they have good personal support and a great reseller rating. 3 Year MSI warranty and other options as well.

16:10 is STILL WIDESCREEN. 16:9 is wider but also not as tall as 16:10. In my opinion 16:10 is better because you have more vertical pixels. It is NOT 4:3.

Amazon has it for 1099 base model, and buy.com has it for 1093.

only if it's on back order. they run tests on the laptop before they send it out to make sure it's working right. takes a couple extra days, but well worth it in my opinion.

XoticPC has like a 9.9/10 reputation. If you ask them not to test it they won't. If you ask them to test it extra (eg. extended torture test), they will.

Don't make that an excuse to not buy from them.

THIS. The "advantages" to the envy all seem like disadvantages to me. (ex. higher screen res thus lower framerate, 1/2 pound less therefor possibly less solid)

Trust me its not less solid. It's a pretty damn nicely machine.. mind you it doesn't have an optical drive. And its power brick is huge.

No excuse for a 15" laptop to not have a optical drive even if they are not used as often.
I know you can download a lot of things but let's say you want to watch a movie or something do you really want to drag a external OD everywhere?
GenTechPC also is a great company to buy from.
Ken is great and goes the extra mile when needed.
I would not hesitate to buy a laptop from them.

I personally would take a 2nd hdd slot or 2nd cooler inside a 15'' over a optical drive, i use them maybe once every 6months, i would gladly go external for those rare cases i need it.

I don't really think there's any need for a 2 hard drive setup unless you plan to use a 1 ssd / 1 hdd hybrid setup. 1 TB is an abundance of storage. I don't think any people (if any) access 500GB of files in everyday use and you can always use an external hard drive for movies and what not. I don't know if a lot of people like to watch movies on teh go but I don't.

You never know when you might need an optical drive.

EDIT: Yes the warranty is provided by msi and not the reseller so it will be 3yrs regardless of where you buy. Just make sure that if you want it custom configured that you get it from a reseller that is authorized by MSI to do upgrades and not void warranty (but thats pretty much all resellers that do upgrades)

I bought a Sager NP8662 a while back from XoticPC. I did not order rush processing or shipping, since I didn't have the cash available for them. However, right after I purchased the machine I found out I needed to go down to DC for a week or so. XoticPC worked with me to get me the machine in under a week I believe, with a few customized components. I've never had a bad experience with them, especially when asking technical questions before a purchase. The GX640 will be my second purchase from them and I've been recommending them to tons of friends.

I believe within my little circle of friends, 6 of us have notebooks purchased from Xotic. Not a single one of us has had a negative experience, or anything short of simply amazing.

After coming from the Envy 15 and dealing with HP, the difference is night and day.

so you're spending $1150 for a laptop and you can't dish out another $50? for their service i think it's well worth it.

xotic is great from all accounts and Justin W has been good on getting back to me with helpful information but I decided to go with gentechpc. Ken Lee was there at midnight on a Saturday night answering my questions, I asked for an upgrade in wireless card and he added it to the website in less than an hour. Now that's a commitment to service.
